I also think he deserves it provided he can buy it with his own money. He draws a salary.
Why should gvt spent 1.2 million on BMW's for ministers when the townships are burning due to a lack of basic services such as water and electricity.
I hope all those people in places like Standerton, Sakhile etc, are watching and reading the news. Maybe next election they will have a better understanding of the bull**** such as "Batho Pele", "a better life for all".
My vote will surely be going somewhere else next time.

You mean like people in Joe Slovo in Cape Town who refuse to move to Delft and build shacks on top of water pipes? The same ones who are protesting and harbouring gangstas who are terrorising law abiding folk in Langa? The same ones who say this is their land but have property in Transkei and have migrated from there in the recent years?

Nice....one, you obviously don't know what goes on, on the ground and what local black people think of these clowns.

My salary is what buys me food, pays my rent, etc, when I give money to poor, its from my salary.

Thing is, that he is a public servant and his salary comes from our tax, too.

It's a frivolous, useless expense. He could have gotten a cheaper car.

How about using 1.2Million to increase public protection and take these gangstas down? Nah... a car is better. :p

At least this way he can do it in style and even earn himself some street cred... goes a long way in pacifying people... :)
 
Maybe it should be an incentive scheme?

If your department does 100% of the work it should you get a City Golf if your department does 100% with no corruption you get a Polo. ( 100% just means everybody did their work. Nothing more nothing less) If you score less than 1005 you get a second-hand fiat Uno.
100% and you used your budget wisely you can have a Jetta.
100-120% no corruption and a good budget – entry level BMW


So on and so forth.

I also think all government cars should have those lovely stickers on them and they all should be white ( or if that offended someone green)

But that is again Just IMO :)

Won't help. With tsotsi kids causing violence and parents smoking tik and dagga in the backyards what is public protection going to do? Speak to someone from over there - preferably a few people and you'll see.

They were offered relocation and they refused. Now ppl in Langa et al are complaining about their house prices going to nil.

Great idea, but rather start of with the Polo, we don't want to give VW any incentive at all to continue producing the Citi.

Yes and his track record shows he was good at what he does and I hope to actually see the new planning ministry actually do something. He is an exception because he has done well and deserves to get rewarded. Most ministers have not come anywhere near his success, so quite frankly they don't deserve a better car. I don't agree with this everyone should be the same trend that's been going around lately. I say he deserves it because he's shown he can actually earn it. If they incentivised the car allowances with performance, how many do you think will actually be driving expensive cars?

Are you happy with the NHI? I work my butt off to get where I am today and a large chunk of my salaray goes to others even though it's my hard work that got me here and my responsibility if something f**ks up. I don't see others getting punished when I do.

He deserves a car, but R1.2m... what about a normal R400-R500k car?

And what I find funny?

KFC is advertising , just add R2 to help hungry people. Fck man, KFC go and fetch my R2 donation from Goverment thanks.

Why must I help with my OWN money, after being taxed to death, paying eskom bills etc? Goverment has a lot of money by the looks of it... so go and ask THEM for that R2. I need that R2 after all these increases...

He can drive whatever he wants, but he can go ahead and pay for it with his salary like a normal person. Ministers etc should'nt get any benefits. Just a salary. What they do with that salary is up to them.

Has anyone actually added up what has been spent on cars just this year alone? Among all the government departments I am sure it must be Ten or Twenty million.
