I need g++ 4.1 to use in a modified Quake 3 game I have, but I can't find it in the repositories as they (Ubuntu) removed it. It's gonna be a long night trying to manual install it

I'm thinking of jumping into a new Linux distro, does Mint have g++ 4.1Assume you mean 12.04?
Have you tried running an older version? 10.04 perhaps?
According to this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ubuntu-63/g-4-1-in-ubuntu-10-10-a-841718/
It's available in the repos for 10.04.

are you just trying to run quake or recompile parts of it ? since you mentioned "modified"
if you are trying to just run quake, i have done this with minimal efford using slax, download slax and the g++ slax module.
then rebuild the slax iso with the g++ module in it.
i even created a bootable quake disk that works on most pcs
