Something I would like to see addressed in the MyAdsl letter is the issue of _all_ of the Marconi modems having a known flaw. This flaw occurs in the Ethernet modem which is set to use a PPPOE sub-interface as appose to an EOA Bridge sub-interface. The flaw results in the modem hanging and the connection being lost. This can occur multiple times per day, and the only solution is to reset the modem. Telkom has been aware of this flaw yet they continue to sell faulty modems to there clients and do nothing to fix the problem.

The second issue is that of ADSL degrading heavily during working hours, and I am talking specifically local speeds here. Telkom should make ppl aware that this really is a callmore prioritized service rather than a 24/7 service.

Hi,

To stop the modem from hanging in router mode try the following:

Set DNS on the router to the following: 196.43.1.13 & 196.43.3.206,
Disable DHCP,
Change IP to that of your LAN or Your LAN IP's to that of the router's range.

If this still does not work, email me and I will send you the new firmware upgrade for the router to solve this problem.

Cheers

I would like to thank Philip for his efforts to help me. The firmware update has resolved the issue of the modem hanging. However this has come at a cost. The new firmware does not allow one to change the IP address of the modem. The DHCP server also only functions with default IP range. While this is acceptable for most users, I don't feel it is right that Telkom is still selling modems that do not function to the standards that they should. Consumers should not accept this "best effort" service.

Please address these issues in your letter to Telkom.

Marconi Router IP

Hi there

I was wondering if someone could help me: I need2access my router webpage and the default IP is apparently http://10.0.0.2, but I try it and it just times out. How do I fix this or find out what the proper IP is without having2reset the router?

Thanks

Simon
