Johannesburg - Electricity supplier Eskom's CEO Jacob Maroga has resigned with immediate effect, according to a staff announcement made by the company's chair Bobby Godsell on Thursday afternoon.

Two different Eskom employees confirmed Godsell made the announcement that Maroga, who was absent from the announcement, resigned on Friday.

"They said they are still resolving the legal matters of his employment contract," said a source. Another employee told Fin24.com shortly after the staff announcement that Maroga had resigned, and that the board had accepted his resignation. "They are still working out the formalities."

Godsell made the announcement together with non-executive director Mpho Makwana just after Thursday noon.

A press briefing that was scheduled to take place after the staff announcement was cancelled shortly before it was about to take place.

"I don't know why it was cancelled," said an employee in Eskom's communications department.

All good but if his successor is going to walk the same path it will mean nothing.

This is one job I would refuse to take, not even for a R100 million package. :)

Hell, I'd take it for a R100 million. Granted I'd probably mess it up badly, but I'd be financially secure for life. It's a much more efficient path to wealth than working your @ss off for 30-40 years :)

+1

-1 ... for a R 100 million I would be happy to oblige

Thing is, I would probably be taking the fat golden handshake he's just taken in few weeks  after they realise how  I am at the job, they'll be happy to pay whatever to get rid of me :D

Wonder how big his golden hand shake was...........

Huge. The standard is: the more you can screw over the government with what you know, the more you get to fkoff.

Ditto!!

Reading between the lines though, it seems as if this is still being negotiated.
Considering the current trend of how the ANC throws millions of South African Ronts of tax payers money at their comrades that FAIL abysmally, Jacob won't struggle to much ;)

1000 troy ounces minimum, probably 10 x that. Hopefully his replacement will manage to procure power stations at more reasonable prices. No point paying nuclear money for coal stations.

well, hopefully he can get a job now more suitable to his qualifications. :erm:

Good riddance!! May those working out the details not be persuaded by Gauvamunt to part with too much - rather let the 'golden' handshake be a "dust & rust" handshake.

A replacement? Do consider Malema - he already knows zip about nothing! So he's superbly qualified ... by "comrade" standards. And Eishkom would not be any worse-off, they have not known proper leadership for so long now.
