Absolute toss and BS statement. The connected cadres and the judicial system made it impossible and prohibitively expensive for anyone else to enter that market segment. They stole the public paid for copper system and handed it over to their cadre's for free.

Once again, almost every single telecoms company is free to create their own DSL network. They have chosen not to due to cost. It was a choice on their part. Was there way to lower the cost that has been hampered by goverment? Sure. But it is still their choice not to roll their own.

Again, the word you are looking for is 'tosh' not 'toss'. I assume you're not English speaking, which is why you made the mistake the first time. As for making it a second time after being corrected, I assume you're wanting to look ignorant?

The copper network was built by Telkom and has always been owned by Telkom. Whether they should have been forced to share, that is another question

They must unbundle voice from ADSL line rental already. Forced voice increases the minimum entry level and even faster 4G can be more economical for the average user. In fact why not make voice line rental free if you have an ADSL line, that way they will still make money on voice calls at least. Or introduce a free line rental option with increased call rates. Cellular networks did that years ago with prepaid(Original pay as you go you had to purchase a R100 connection every month to just receive calls with no included airtime, however the call rates were the same as contract, they eventually did always with that but increased calls to R2.50 or more per minute).

I think Telkom's inability to innovate or evolve, and stick to their old models will be their undoing.
 
Sometimes it feels like the existence of ADSL is Telkom's headache, seeing how they sometimes are unwilling to fix it. LTE and FTTx is their future
 
I signed a 6 month contract with Mweb for an ADSL connection which unfortunately has to make use of Telkom. I have had this rubbish for 3 months now and during evenings and weekends the best speeds they can do is 300 Kbps, I am paying for a 2 meg line and they do nothing but promise they will alleviate the congestion and after 3 months nothing has been done. Who on earth would want to do business with this useless company. I also blame Mweb for not checking the lines that they use from Telkom, yet they make sure you pay every month until the contract is up it is very frustrating, yet they seem to get away with it. I think there should be some sort of consumer protection, I don't know why we get screwed when it comes telecoms.

Before jumping on the bandwagon you may want to check if this is even Telkoms fault...

It unduly benefited. Massively. Undeniably. In terms of infrastructure. In terms of its history of legislated monopoly. In terms of its very dodgy re-birth, to its still very shady shareholdings. It is the very essence of everything that is wrong in SA going back to 1961 in all its forms, shapes and manifestations. It is a shape-shifting form of unkillable evil.

No denying the unduly benefited statement - never have. The rest of your post is applicable to all monopolies.

But that was not the argument here.
