Massive changes coming to YouTube's comment section

YouTube has launched a new comment filtering system to help creators on its site locate and respond to comments they deem to be more important.

YouTube previously added several tools to manage interactions in the comments section, such as comment pinning, creator hearts, and the ability to withhold inappropriate replies for YouTube review.

Seriously, just put massive in CAPS and be done with it.

At this point, it must be possible to use AI to assign a score to comments that somewhat accurately reflects the level of effort and meaningful engagement. Rather than secretly deleting comments or shadow-banning repeat offenders, just have the submit button greyed out until the comment is sufficiently high quality.

Sometimes I have fantastic discussions in the YouTube comments section - but those are on less popular and more technical videos that don't attract trolls and idiot kids. It would be great to see decent discussions going on across the whole site.

Although it's fair to say that Twitter would benefit from such a system far, far more than YouTube would.
