No, that’s the present, the future is lower latency when they get to trade here, but you give me an alternative and I’m on it.

I don’t have to go on holiday, I live on holiday. I work from my lay-z-boy at home and go paddling on the lagoon/walking on the beach/hiking on the krantzes in my breaks. I don’t have to live in a city and commute daily. If I want, I can just get in my car and find a caravan park or B&B in the most amazing parts of the country and work from anywhere.

That’s the future I’m game for. Having fibre is a poor substitute.

Post your speed test to the UK and justify moving to a fibre serviced location. I’m open to suggestions. In the mean time not even this morning’s grey skies are going to convince me to move.

Actually no. Way back when I had ADSL (VOX) I used to get under 200ms to UK gaming servers. Now with Fiber (Afrihost) it's over 200ms. Frogfoot and Afrihost seem to route via Joburg first and then go back to coast again for some bizarre reason.

I have Voda and the tower is 100m away, but it’s non existent during 6 day Eskom outages. It was also terrible for most of Wednesday. Voda speed test incoming…

Just no comparison.
Check the packet loss and jitter on Voda. And I have no problem with 100-200ms latency to London.

For R750 pm I’m happy. Mostly I’m happy I don’t have to put up with city levels of crime, noise and pollution.
 
To be fair to Voda I’ve redone the speed test while sitting right near the router… still, latency, jitter and packet loss vs Starlink. Speed is max for my package so ignore that…
Also, Starlink is month to month, Voda is 36 month contract.

An extra 10ms of jitter won't make much of a difference.

The packet loss is very concerning though, never had that. That should definitely not be happening. Something is messed up there...

Our Voda tower relays wirelessly to the main backhaul tower some km away. When it’s in season and the village is full, speeds go to pot too.

Struggling to figure out where in the Western Cape it is, obviously down the N2 somewhere.

That was lucky, I was roughly getting about 300ms as it was routing via satellite

Just reverse image search the photos, it's Greyton in Overberg.

That's a 5yr old article and pretty minor in comparison to what Cape Town is subjected to.
@lkpat what's happened with that Madiba park situation?
