Massive mobile broadband bill?

"If a Vodacom user on contract forgets to purchase his ad-hoc data bundle for the month and continues with his normal data usage (say 1GB), is there a way to check on this (out of bundle) data usage, or is the only way to wait for the account at end of the month?"
If u on MTN-SP you can register for MTN-Active, and view "unbilled" to check current usage... but from what I've seen its not live, so u can only check up to about 2 days ago.... which is already a bit late for me.
I would like a notice/sms/disconnect within an hour of exceeding data bundle

MTN exorbitant 3G costs

Been there, done that - got the bruises and the hole in my bank

I thought I would be wise enought o get myself a 2gig contract and only pay couple hundred a month. BIG MISTAKE!

Firstly, their monitoring is not live, so when my data card said i still had 200MB left, i could have been 1gig over! Only updates every 24hours or so. Add to this, the fact that not one person in their service call centre could tell me what i had used and how much i had left.
Another kicker: lets say u have 200megs left and u go overby 100megs, i naturally thought 200megs in-bindle, 100megs out-of-bundle. NOT A CHANCE! U get charged 300megs out-of-bundle rates. Now calculate that if you had 2gigs and u go over by a few hundred.... ouch!

After a few months of R2500 bills, I took a days leave to sort this out with MTN billing department in Roodepoort. Only to have a smartass, fast talking salesman totally blow me outta the water. I left there even more confused than before with NONE of my questions answered.

Contract is coming to an end in a month or two and will being saying goodbye to them. Nothing but problems from DAY 1

another satisfied customer, thank Mtn

Our company has all our corporate phones with Vodacom and with no additional requests from us, if your usage starts reaching 50%, 70% and I think 90% of your contract purchased bundle, you get an SMS about your usage.
Why can't MTN implement the same thing?

Regarding traffic monitoring, as far as I know, the ECA stipulated Lawful Intercept data capture and retrieval for up to 5 years. How are the SPs getting away with not doing this on prepaid?
