And yet pc games are still R350...
Not justifying piracy, but some people consider it as lifestyle choice.
yeah, cause stealing cars is the same as duplicating a piece of software. i adore that analogyIt's amazing how many guys are suddenly considering piracy due to the price increases. That's like saying the price of an Audi R8 is so ridiculous, you'd rather just steal it. An increase in something's price shouldn't be an excuse to justify a crime.
lets rather try to compare games to Health Insurance: if my discovery went up 42% from one month to the next i'm bloody definitely canceling my medical aid. its too much, too quick for no bloody reason. i'll rather just go to the vet and get sorted therecheaper knockoff, real doctors cost money
/gets off high horse/
Not targeting anyone in specific, just the general feel from the thread.
All i'm saying is that i find it a bit alarming that something you're dead set against one moment, is suddenly deemed acceptable, all due to a price increase.
Personally for me a price increase would mean a.)much more selective gaming. b.)something with a multiplayer option, c.) RPG's with a gazillion hours of gameplay.![]()
of course it is, since no medical aid will go up by 42% overnight. but, i concur, you win. we are all car thieves then.Problem with your, amazingly, even cuter analogy, is that it's firmly rooted in the realms of your imagination. The vet? Wow.
Like real life Somali Pirates?
Do you carry an RPG? You packing heat?

IT'S NOT about the price increase, price increases are a part of life. It's about the fact that R1K for a game in our current financial climate compared to other countries is absolutely unjustifiable...no matther how much "logic and reason" I can possibly throw at the subject.

and please remember: a sense of humour never hurt anybody
i concur, you win.
is piracy acceptable within certain specified criteria, ie anything above R800 will warrant piracy; if the price falls below that it will once more become unacceptable?
hmm...that's where the problem comes in. I think (at least for me at the moment) it comes down to a personal choice based on your own parameters. As I've stated before, I hate piracy but I have pirated a lot of stuff in the course of my life (especially at varsity). Since I started working though I've stopped pirating because I knew I could afford to actually buy the stuff, and let's face it, owning an original copy of a game (instead of some crappy cheap ass dvd with permanent marker names on) is a million times better. But now I'm going back to that dark place where financing my lifelong casual love for gaming is becoming impossible.
I know what you mean, gaming is one hobby i'm unfortunately not willing to let go off. It was one of my first loves.![]()
