Im getting spammed by Telkom

Dear Subscriber

A new scam which seeks to rob TelkomInternetâ?Ts customers of their user access details has come to the attention of the Company. This scam is conducted through hoax emails requesting internet customers to confirm their usernames and passwords

TelkomInternet advises customers to be on high alert as this opens them up to bandwidth theft and abuse of their mail accounts. TelkomInternet will, under no circumstances, send an email communication requesting its customers to make available their account details.

TelkomInternet has the TelkomInternet Online Password Management Tool available on www.telkomsa.net, which enables our customers to securely change both their TelkomInternet account passwords and their e-mail passwords online on a regular basis.

Those customers who have already released their usernames and passwords must change their passwords immediately or contact 10215. We are currently investigating the matter.

Regards

TelkomInternet Technical support

How the hell do I stop this message???! Every time I log onto my mail account it sends 2 of these messages and trying to download a third message an error window pops up Pop3 server have not responded in 30 seconds blah blah blah.

pfffft....now I cannot retrieve any other of my legit messages!

Phoned TelkomInternet problem solved.

VERY HARD LOL.

I phoned telkominternet when I recieved the mail, and spoke to a (very clearly clueless) "engineer" about the phising scam.

I asked her for the address of their Abuse department so that I can forward the mail header etc.

She replied: "What is a header?" and that Telkom has no department that deals with this type of problem!!
She then asked me for my email password so that she can check the mail!!
She truly is useless and/or stupid.

I almost lost it.

I also got this message but my email is ok WC

The banks are aware of the problem and they are all pro actively monitoring the situation. Most of the phishing scams are coming from overseas and often from the same botnets that send spam which makes it difficult to track down.

You should however report these kind of mails to the affected bank as soon as possible - they all now have dedicated addresses setup to receive these phishing reports. Failing that drop an email to your ISP's abuse@ address - and shout at them if they don't have one :p
