Matric exams! Why so much media coverage?

It really is, you don't even have to pass all your subjects to pass, wtf?

There's not much motivation to pass when they see people who failed most subjects end up as president of the YL.

In fact there's not much motivation to even reach matric when they see people who didn't end up as president of the country

I guess I'm overqualified for politics then. :D

Matric is a f$kng joke, I simply cannot believe how many fail each year.

But the knock-on effect is really felt at university, first year students now have to have bridging courses etc. because they simply can't cope or aren't up to the standard required, despite their matric "results". The really big problems are in the maths and science faculties of course.

Science faculty at Wits has restrictions on what you need to get in matric math before they let u in. Those number seem to be going up, think u need 80% in math now to do act sci, and 70 or 75 to do comp sci. When i started comp sci was 60 and act sci was 70. Then they even dropped that for a bit, but now for next year they seem to have brought it back.

Marked quite a few first year papers last year, the stuff those people wrote.. and the amount that failed all a very bad reflection on this matric system of ours.
