Matte vs Glossy LCD

Anyone know of any good 22' deals? So far the best I have found is the Samsung 2232GW at for R2550 at PC international, the matte version is about R100 cheaper.

How about the 2232GW for R2499 on my site :)

dIGITAL eXPERIENCE

There is a wonderfull digitals hop in fourways (Fourways Crossing) if you live in Gauteng which has more LCD's than you could ever dream of. Go have a look there and the sales repps are great - they know their products...

Yeah right ... I used to work at Cats ... and the rubbish Digital Experience told their customers was amusing. I'll admit though that they carry a large range and are very cheap ... but knowledgeable they are not ... at least not all of them.

I have just bought four Samsung 2232GW's :D.....I use them for my video edit desks. They are glossy and the reflection is almost un noticible. The clarity is amazing, I didnt like the mat finnish...colours are dull imo.

Very nice! Pic of your setup? :D

Yeah! :D Used to have the proprietry keyboard from Canopus, but using 3 or 4 editing aps the shortcuts are all different, so I just remember the short keys and use the el cheapo keyboards....it works :D:D

I've seen both glossy and matte on laptops, and I think glossy wins there. My BenQ at home is matte however, and it's an awesome screen.

I think that matte helps to make the blacks appear deeper, whereas glossy kinds of makes the blacks look a little more washed out. Hard to explain, but that is what I've seen on the glossy laptops here at work.

I use a matte lcd at work.. and I have my Samsung 2232gw (glossy) at home. Love it to bits. The matte is kaaak in comparison.

I don't have any issues with reflections, and the image clarity is top notch.

To be honest, 99% of the people here who voted for Matte have most proberbly never owned a Gloss monitor in their lives. I Bought a fancy 2232GW about a week after it was released and heres what I have to say from my own personal experiance...

1. Even if you sit in front of a window, the samsung 22" range tends to be so bright that it outshines 90% (Not ALL) reflections. In fact.. shine a spotlight on in in broad daylight and I reckon you will still have crystal clarity :P

2. Color seems to be 1,000,000 times better on a glossy than a matte. I moved from SA 2 months ago and had to sell my gloss screen. Incredibly enough you cannot find a new decent 2232GW anywhere in America so I had to settle with the gay matte new ToC series.

3. Glossy seems to better for your eyes. With matte screens you sit and stare for hours on end at the same distance of screen and you'r eyes become accustomed to that and you wind up with a headache and sore eyes. With Gloss there is a small amount of reflection for you to unknowingly focus on every now and then which moves the muscles in your eyes and prevents them from slacking and becoming useless with time.

Anyways.. to cut a long wall-of-text short. I would definatley take the Gloss. keep in mind that this is a comparison between two different models of samsung monitors. I am not sure about the other brands out there and wish you luck with your new monitor... once you go 22" you never go back :)

Well actually i've seen a lot of comments of glossy screens showing a lot of reflection against a window come from forumites who own glossy screens. And there are many who have owned both matte and glossy. Some prefer glossy and some prefer matte. And the rest don't have a preference. Your statement that 99% of people who voted matte have never owned a glossy screen is irrelevant. Who says they've never owned a laptop? You appear to be showing the same bias that you believe the matte fans possess.
