Hi guys does anyone know what the max edge speed is, I thought it was 384kbps, what's is the max speed that I cellphone can handle, and PC

I have a N95 and i never get more then 210kbps on egde

edge2 will have 500-600kps, hopefully it will be coming out at the end of the year. Egprs will have 1.2mbps down load.

EDGE can carry data speeds up to 236.8 kbit/s - so 210kbps is very good for an EDGE connection.

If you have a N95 why are you not using 3G or 3.5G ? You can get 3.6mbps using 3.5G (HSDPA).

im on a cellc contract, they funny think is a get 348kps on my laptop with the datacard

Edge2 and EGPRS are the same thing. What you are actually referring to (speed wise) is an Edge enhancement called "Evolved EDGE". Note that this is a hardware and software change : you will need a device that can support higer modulations.
Ciao ~

EDGE what?!

EDGE this far on Vodacom i would say is a Myth...... MTN or Cell C/VM. they offer what is known as EDGE....

I second that. In my town MTN outruns Vodacom by a mile. I use both. I currently have a Vodacom 500MB datacontract and I use it in a Huawei E620 data card and I buy an additional 500MB from MTN, which I use in a Nokia 6680. MTN is way faster than Vodacom.

I am on Cell C as well. EDGE speed depends on what class your cellphone support. I get 244kbps on my Samsung F480 and it is Class 12. Check on www.gsmarena.com for the class info. I haven't downloaded anything yet, as it will cost quite a bit... :(

GPRS = 56kbps
EDGE = 244kbps (i think) and depends on what class EDGE your phone supports.

Hope this helps. :)

Also, if you want to, get a prepaid VC sim and buy prepaid data bundles. My Samsung supports HSDPA 7.2mbps and while I am suffering from internet lessness, this is what I am doing. :)

HUH?!

Ok I phoned Vodacom 155 because I have moved and they told me that I have EDGE in area & the Vodamap is outdated. But my Phone & E220 both say GPRS. The speeds are terrible. Vodacom tell me that it must be a windows problem? But on my phone? It shows the GPRS symbol, when placing a MTN or Virgin sim card in my phone and E220 I get the EDGE symbol and my data card says EDGE. Plus I get EDGE speeds on MTN and below GPRS speeds on Vodacom? Now it takes 1min 13sec's to open Standard Banks Website on Vodacom and 2mins 36sec's to open myadsl.co.za on Vodacom. Where as on MTN 4sec's to open Standard Bank Website and 6sec's to open myadsl.co.za website. So I ask you what I must do. I get told it’s windows but MTN works 100% and Vodacom below average (way below). If it was windows or my data card that was faulty MTN & Virgin Mobile would not work at EDGE speeds right??

Also I got told that “you can not ping IP addresses on Vodacom because the network does not allow it”

So when asking Vodacom to downgrade my contract because there unable to find a solution I get told you must fork out R1056, For what I don't get GPRS speeds on GPRS so why must I pay??? I wanted to go down to Data messenger Plus @ R85-00pm. But don’t think I will win.
Funny thing when I was in the other place where I moved from I had HSDPA it preformed well but gave me trouble here and there….. Like slow uploads and 691 error. Which I am sorry I complained about. Really I am! I would rather have those problems then slow internet…….
:(
