Please help a noob. :D

I am thinking I should try this game out see what all the fuss is about... Is there some sort of trial I can use?

Also will it work on a 384 connection?

And one other question, do I need to purchase the game client or can someone send it to me or something... How does that work?

You said it :) How does what work? What are you talking about?

The game client... You have to buy a game card right, then do you also have to pay for the client? Or can someone just copy it for me? As my internet is slow to download it.

still don't know what your referring too?

Please explain what your trying to do.

what is a game client?
what is a game card?
pay for what client?
copy what for you?

The World Of Warcraft game, the files used.

The card is the 60 day thing that lets you play.

I am asking if someone can just give me the updated game files for world of warcraft or if I need to actually buy them and then pay more per month to play?

Hey Pooky :)

K, there is a 14 Day trial that u can use before u actually purchase the game..The trial version does have it limits tho, but it is nice just to be able to try it out and see if u like it. U can get a trial key fro the (and correct me if I am wrong pls!) the WoW Europe website.

Yes, it works fine on 384k, that is what I am using :) People used to play this game on dial up. lols

Wrt the client, u can copy the updated client from someone, they must just delete their WTF folder and addons folder. This is the best option as then u don't have to download all the patches. If u decide that u want to carry on, u can buy the Battlechest from CNA, BT Games etc...for about R199. That includes Vanilla (Original WoW) and the first expansion (Burning Crusade) as well as some nice extras. U will only use the activation keys found on both games (as u will already have the full client) to upgrade ur account from a trial to a full account. Afaik, u get 30 days free play time and then after that u have to buy a 60 Day game card or u can pay a monthly sub by credit card. There is also the option of buying the activation keys online if u don't want the Battlechest.

Ok, I hope that helps :)

Yes that helps a lot thanks!

So in order to get a proper account I need to actually purchase the game box...

Cool.

Next question, can some kind soul please send me their updated client so I can try out WoW?

Where in Durban are you? There are a few (at least) guys from Durban who play who are active here, and I'm sure none of them will mind helping you out with a copy of the client. An external drive would be your best bet though, the fully updated client with both expansions installed is in the region of 18-19gb.....

Well, finaly clarity! If you want the client files (I have all from 1st release to current!) your welcome too them! Just dop me a PM (I'm also in Dirtbin)

I have an external drive... I'm in the Hillcrest Kloof Gillitts area...

I'm in DBN North, but I'm happy too dump the files to CD and drop off or meet midway (maybe Pavilliojn?)

P.S. My client is the US version (but that is easily solved via a change too one file)

let some recruit x3 exp is just so faster ,you just boost your way to lvl60 , after that its easy to level :)

Don't forget to run the repair program located in the World Of Warcraft folder after you copied the client from some1 else. Takes a few minutes, but very much worth it!

Why would he need to run repair?

If it is a working version, there is no need for it. Also, if some files are missing, repair might reset the version back to 3.0.1 and if the guy doesn't have the patches, he would need to download it.

Your right, the game will work, but if he encountered any errors ingame, however small, a repair usually helps wonders. I have done this several times and every single time I had graphical issues when playing on the new computer, and a repair fixed the problems in each case. I should rather have said that its not necessary. And I would also run a repair just to make sure i don't have any ''files missing'',since that would amount to a halfass game installation to me and could/would cause problems in the future. There is a topic on the US forums about this where a dev also strongly suggests a repair afterward.I guess its just a matter of choice. Hope that clears it up.

I've never encountered something where a game copy will have errors if the original didn't have it already. I agree that a repair will fix a lot of problems, but my concern is that the repair utility has often reset the game version when I ran it, which meant that I had to install all of the updates again. If the guy doesn't have the patch files, it can take some time (and bandwidth, if he has an capped account) to download it again.
