Was driving from Phalaborwa down to Nelspruit, changer gears from 4 to 3 trying to go past a truck and I heard a knocking sound, all of a sudden ESP and Powertrain lights came on, car lost power. Stopped, opened the hood, all seemed normal. Drove like 20kms, still no power. So, decided to call insurance to come and pick up the vehicle to Nelspruit.

I'm not sure if it's the turbo as thick black smoke is coming out of the exhaust esp under load, when idling the smoke look whit'ish and immediately black when revving it. Or the intercooler, but the pipes look normal. At only 96000km, and 1 year later, heish......

Second time standing on the side lines. Previous 08 BT50 2.5TD blew a brake fluid pipe at Witbank at night, had the vehicle also towed to Nelspruit at a cost... Had the vehicle for almost 10 years, 8 before the incident and problem free prior to that!!!

Maybe, a brand change is in order......

What did you expect from a ford? lol

Lol so true the BT 50 is 100% ford. We fixed a stolen and recovered BT 50 and EVERYTHING is Ford. Key and barrel dashboard fender liners fuse box ect all ford and supplied by Ford in Ford packets ect. They should just call it a Ford BT 50

Also you had a vehicle for 8 years, it gave you one problem and you subsequently thought what a piece of **** I have to change brands? You sir are a ungrateful idiot.
No comment!!!!

Go on now, defend yourself.
Heish, I think of it as a huge mistake at times!!! But, coming from a Mazda, to another, it was a no brainer at that time.... Esp, value wise... Mazda's are a huge value second hand.... Plus, it's my fifth Mazda... Sting, 3, BT50 2.5, CX5 and this BT50 2.2... So, the story goes on...

Sitting next to the tow guy, he does not inspire a lot of confidence... He shows his book and tells me long story about this model and Ford's on how a week barely passes without them picking one up on the side of the road

I am with you, throw it away, chances are you are going to fix it and you willbhave another failure at around 180000kms. Cars that have early failures never turn out for the better in my experience.

Wait... wot?
You did 96000 km’s in 1 year??

Similar problem on a ranger 2.2 turns out the egr valve shits itself around the 100k mark on a lot of the 2.2 diesel models

When it happens the waste gate opens fully giving you no power with puffs of smoke

After an eventful two weeks, with the BT50 standing open at Mazda. New Turbo and Intercooler installed. The damn things pulls really well again.

Innovations came to the party and paid for both the Turbo and Intercooler, plus installation!

Was so pissed at some stage i wanted to another vehicle and be rid of thing... I'm taking a long trip Vryheid this week, it will be the most proper test!!!
