MBD attorneys debt Harassment

These assholes phone me twice a day for a Standard Bank account that I apparently owe money on.

I closed my last Standard bank account in 1999.
 
I am getting harrased by them as well for the past few months. They phone everyday at 7:20am and then twice more during the day looking for someone called "Happy". I tried everything, requesting nicely for my number to be removed, screaming, swearing, joking / messing around with them. I have also emailed them but got no response. I am at my wits end and extremely frustrated now. The worst part is it is on my home landline and I cannot block the call. I feel like cancelling my line but need it for work as I work remotely. I just don't know what to do anymore. Is there anything I can do considering it is a landline? Can telkom block the calls on their side? But then the problem is that they keep on phoning from different numbers, so that won't really help.

First tell us why you need a handset on the landline "because you work from home"? Do you make calls? Find a VOIP solution and call from your computer/smartphone via app?

Ask for the name of their information officer's details. One of the requirements of POPIA is the information that you maintain needs to be accurate, if they refuse or unable to remove the incorrect details from their system, open a case with the Information Regulator.
 
A tenant I had died in 2018. As I found out from the letters of demand that arrived, she owed all over

Somehow MDB attorneys got hold of my number, I suspect from Council rates dept. They came on all serious and implied I would be in deep poo if I didn't pay them a substantial part of the deposit I was still holding.

I told the lady on the 5th call to go and suck eggs, I had paid someone else the money and there was none left (not true but what the hell)

That seemed to work

Whenever I asked they always refuse to give any information. Just had a look at the Information Regulator website but can't seem to find any direction on how to lay a formal complaint. Will check it out in more depth later.

Get a handset for your landline that has CLI, and then simply don't answer any numbers not in your contact list.

I would get a contact email address from their website. Email them you request for the information officer's details and the reason you need it.

Mmm, I see you are on JHB, they are likely in JHB.

I once had a similar issue, I found out the location of the relevant places office and sent them a snotty e-mail and said I will have to come to their offices at wherever if they do not stop contacting me on whatever number as I am not the person they think the number belongs to. The calls then stopped.
 
For robocalls - put them on hold, let the machines talk to each other.
For insurance calls, tell them you want to insure a CBR1000 motorcycle, you just got your license, and you've been looking. Not your house or car, just that.
For sales calls, sound really excited and tell them that you're so happy you qualify as you just started debt counselling and have been looking for new contracts.
For these guys, get a ransomware file, then answer the call, ask them for the invoice details etc then send them the file, call it proof of payment - invoice number XXXX as per the details from the call, from an anonymous email account. Reverse spearphish these fsckers.
 
MBD Attorneys are a plague. They’re obviously just after money so nothing actually goes into sorting out numbers or dealing with complaints.
