They say the great wall of china includes the remains of some of it's builders. If this report [on Thabo's wall] is true, then the foundations should be laid on the bodies of the families whose poverty this money could have alleviated.

You guys can relax, you don't need to bend your head around how this thing is going to cost R90 million because I've figured it out.

What imported wall could possibly cost so much? There's only one answer : The wall Mbeki is putting around his house is none other than the Berlin Wall :D

you see you don't understand.

you have 2 concentric walls (with a crocodile filled moat in between) with a Parapet along the outside with 3m deep foundations adding to a total wall hight of 12m above ground on the outside. all this is built out of blocks of marble from the US.
the inside wall is only 10 m above ground with lighting and sloping sightly toward the outer wall to prevent easy scaling. also the inner wall is topped with crosshatched razor blades.
adding to that 2 fortified gatehouses...
see there..

90 mill down the drain.
easy as pie.

all this will server nicely to further distance him from the reality of South Africa.

The story does not have clearly defined sources, and they could not collaborate the story. It is basically just a rumour, more importantly because it starts by saying that we heard from a source that we cannot identify!!!!!! moreso we cannot ay for certain that is true!!!, but, a sensational rumour nonetheless, I guess that is the prime motivation for printing the story.

There is nothing there. If Mbeki is building a wall it will most probably not cost so much.
 
Unfortunately, Mbeki's wall is being built by one of the corrupt scum officials who leave their department in order to grab a juicy tender... ie., someone more interested in money than public service.

Just a point of clarification, while I do not for one minute believe that the wall can cost R90 million - it must be remembered that the wall whatever the cost will be built around the Presidential Residence in the Bryntirion Presidential Compound in Tshwane - this means that it does not belong to Mbeki, but to the South African Public, and will be for the protection of future Presidents.

Bugger the future presidents. The president has enough security. This money could be better spent protecting the people of this country.

If there's no crime problem, why does the president need more protection? Paranoia and denialism.

Even if it costs R2 million that is 2 million too much. The president is only human, not a god.

/Edit: Not even the white house has an elaborate wall built around the perimeter - it's got something kind of similar to palisade fencing.
