Johannesburg - President Thabo Mbeki has suspended the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Vusi Pikoli, the GCIS said on Monday.

"This decision was taken on the basis of an irretrievable breakdown in the working relationship between the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development and the NDPP," said Government Communications and Information System's spokesperson Themba Maseko.

"Government would like to reassure all South Africans that the functioning of the justice system will not be compromised, especially within the context of the collective challenge to fight crime," he said.

Another Minister didnt wanna be Mbeki's lap-dog.... I will take anyone a bet that Zuma's bribery case is going to disappear now.....

the NPA act says the following on the clause :-P


(6) (a) The President may provisionally suspend the National Director or a Deputy
National Director from his or her office, pending such enquiry into his or her fitness to
hold such office as the President deems fit and, subject to the provisions of this
subsection, may thereupon remove him or her from office—

(i) for misconduct;
(ii) on account of continued ill-health;
(iii) on account of incapacity to carry out his or her duties of office efficiently; or
(iv) on account thereof that he or she is no longer a fit and proper person to hold

there is that word again..."collective"

that is the clue word, which the secret society puts into news articles to let everyone know he p1ssed someone off and that is why he lost his job.

re first comment, it was only this week that the state was gratned permission by the coursts to go after documents overseas regarding the Zuma case. coincidence, perhaps!

Johannesburg - The suspension of the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Vusi Pikoli had "immense national implications", Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille said on Monday.

Zille said she would ask the party's justice spokesperson, Tertius Delport, to request that the justice portfolio committee be recalled as soon as possible "for a full briefing" on President Thabo Mbeki's decision.

No doubt, in our democratic dispensation, the speaker will refuse the request in a bid to suppress debate,
 
Misters and public servants who actually fullfill their mandates are axed. Effective policing, invesitgating and prosecuting can not be allowed.

I would suggest we no longer refer to our country as the "Republic of South Africa"
 
The time to get out is now. We have at least 2 yrs left here. Mark my words the end of this place is coming and there is no stopping it. You can be as positive as you want but reality is that this gvt is incapable of leading anything let alone a country.

Agreed.
Even the yaysayers, who were abundant on this forum, have silently disappeared. Probably became sick of hearing "I told you so!".

There is no more argument whatsoever to stay in South Africa.
 
well if you cant see it now... Mugabe == Mbeki

all in all the same just different in keeping the competition out of the closet.

Not sure why Mbeki (remember the guy that fired Zuma? and is currently battling him for ANC presidency?) would be unpleased with the NPA because of that?

Mbeki did not choose to fire Zuma... as Zuma is STILL deputy president at the ANC. It was international pressure and the world looking down at the spineless Mbeki to do something.
