Mbeki suspends NPA boss

With attitudes like his it is no wonder we are in this mess. This has nothing to do with race. It has to do with the inability of the current leaders to do anything remotely right. All they are interested in is lining their own pockets. We are headed for a rocky road. The only thing this gvt cares about is the soccer and I can just see the headlines after the soccer. Can you imagine the bribes and corruption that will be uncovered? It is inevitable.

Oh right. I must've imagined that part of our history where Zuma was Deputy President of the country and was then relieved of his duties in Parliament on national TV.

I would love to know the reasons behind this - but you're looking under the wrong bush.

Take out that qualification and I'd say just about any party in the country. (OK maybe not Chabaan and his NPP)

...and while we're on that topic, can anyone point out an ANC minister who has made a success of their portfolio?
(The only one I can think of is Trevor Manuel, but then he'd have to be... SARS is the only cash generator the gov has - how else are all those 635 CSI's and Range Rovers going to be financed ?)
 
I'd say there are only a few bad eggs there. Can you tell me the country isn't in a stronger place economy wise than 5 years ago?

Maybe I didnt explain it too well... but here goes nothing again....

Zuma was deptuty president of SA until he became an embarrassment. The Thint case was not the decider, it was the alledged Rape case that had him removed as Deputy President of SA by parlament. Deputy president of the ANC is NOT Deputy President of South Africa....

Mbeki had no option, as not doing anything will stuff up the SA governments image even more, so Mbeki removed Zuma. What other option did Mbeki have? Dept pres that is charged with Rape? There were already 2 other Fraud and corruption cases against Zuma even before he was removed as Deputy.
Mbeki is a figurehead.. he carrys out the wishes of the ANC party, he is incapable of a coherent thought...

FAlse economy, wait till the donations dry up and the government have to spend money where it is needed, like medical care, road infrastructure, proper policing, public transport etc. But then again there is no more public services, each individual have to pay for the services they used to get as part of their tax contributions. Now the tax only funds fraud and make a few individuals rich while the poor gets poorer.

What? He was fired in June for an incident that was to happen in October? Wow.. perhaps we don't give Mbeki enough credit.

I agree with this statement, and the fact that SARS has had record after record income received for the last financial years - now where is all that money??

Also, services provided by your local municipality & government, you have to pay for now. So where is all the money?

I guess that depends on how you measure economic strength and if you take sustainability into account.
No doubt there's more cash floating about but you'll find that our growth is very much consumer-led rather than an export-led production boom.
We're currently running a current account deficit in order to finance imports, which is manageable as long as we strong inflows of foreign capital investment. What happens when these slow down?

The only solution the powers that be seem to have with regards to control of inflation is hiking interest rates which have no direct influence over the biggest contributors to inflation. Now if our economic growth has a strong consumer spend influence what do you think is going to happen here?

Our growth of around 5% over the last 5 years, while not dismal, is below the global average of 7% for all developing countries.

We still have a massive skills shortage with no viable solution in the foreseeable future. Our education system has shown no improvement in the last 13 years, in fact it seems more to be exhibiting a slow but steady deterioration.

Now why am I not surprised by that response? The usual knee-jerk, kindergarten sandpit response of "but what about them" or "they did it first"

For gods sake we're in 2007 now. Before '94 my computer was a 486 with 8k of memory and a 20Mb harddrive. I certainly wouldn't accept using that machine for development today just because that was what I had in 94.

Actually I think the minister is being the lap dog and it is the director who wants to retain his independence.
