I'll see in 45 minutes what the morning holds, that's the time my power went off most of last week. Thank goodness for APC (no, not the Bradley type).

All the maintenance in the world ain't going to get a 3000Mw power station to magically produce 6000Mw, Byrd.

It is a CAPACITY problem, made worse by incompetent maintenance.
 
Agreed about the capacity, but it does also have to do with maintenence.
Look at the issue at Koeberg last year with that nut or whatever that screwed up the generator.

Growing up, we lived on at a powerstation in Natal. In the early 90's they 'mothballed' it because it wasn't required. The problem was, i heard, when something broke in a different powerstation, instead of buying a new part, they would strip the parts from the mothballed stations. Now those stations are basically useless. Hence the argument for good maintenence.

Damagement-type thinking in the misconception that they can double something's output whilst retaining the same usage of coal and water? :rolleyes:

Government need to have a two-pronged strategy - kill off crime first, then lure people back.

As long as crime is high, people won't come back easily even tho they'll be offered an extremely good salary.
 
What would happen in a corporate enviroment if such a blunder was made by the MD??

HE WOULD GET THE BOOT.
 
It occurs to me the thread title is wrong.
It is not Eskom's fault we are in this mess (well, mostly not)- it is governments.
 
With the ANC now playing the role of official opposition to the Mbeki government, perhaps the President thought it was time he changed roles as well. This kind of openness is very refreshing - an approach that wins elections in most countries. It's just a pity he can't stand.

They got "transferred" to Siberia.

I say we send these idiots who made the stuff-ups with the electricity planning and then ignored the warnings into the Kalahari. No Garmin allowed. If they returned, they can have another chance.
