Hi all,

Okay, so like many, I had a "Incredible Connections" card that I used in emergencies.
It was eventually sold to a company (according to the letter) called MDB and their contact number is 086 022 7373.
Now I haven't tried calling them yet, but basically, the last statement I received was on 09/03/2014 and I owed them R2332.53 (Payment due was R207.61)

Suffice to say, long story short, it's the 10th now, I wanted to get hold of them to find out what my oustanding amount was so I could hopefully clear it up.
I did this with RCS and I want to try do it with them as well.

It's one of my goals, mid 2015, I'd like to be debt free as much as possible (no unnecessary payments!)

Can anyone help me because I've done some Googling and I can't find anything about them or contact details (e-mails) for MDB.

I'll try calling the number tomorrow, but in the mean time, if anyone can help with any information, that would be great.

I just went through all the pages and found a page where it says "MDB Legal Collections (Pty) Ltd (MBD)"

Are they the same thing?

Yes. You will also find them if you google "scum of the earth", "parasites" and "what happens when whores have children"

They will never send you your statement. Would recommend you pay off that card quickly because they never update your credit profile to show you've actually been paying them.

The less you deal with them the better, they are really scum. Firstly, they cannot just hand you over to a debt collector without informing you of their intention to do so.

I had a run-in with them a few years ago. I lost my job in 2000 (retrenched), but had a company phone on my name. I immediately phoned the cellular provider to inform them of this, but they refused to suspend my contract. I paid as much as I could, but eventually fell behind. I was blacklisted but never heard anything of it again.

More than 10 years later, MDB started sending me messages to pay R100 on "my account". Baffled, I phoned them. After the 100th call I eventually get through to the rude and obnoxious call centre agent. They explained that this was for my outstanding cell phone account of 1999. I immediately realized what was going on. They buy old debtors books from companies and then they try and trick you into paying them back. I denied any knowledge of it and asked for any documentation they have to be sent to me. Which did not happen. Ever. They requested sample signatures, my ID, proof of residence and I just refused to until they provided me with documentation. Which they never could. The debt had prescribed which they knew and I now knew as well after a bit of research. But the moment you acknowledge that you are aware of it, the debt is legally due, which I luckily didn't.

They became increasingly aggressive and extremely rude. They started phoning me at all hours of the day, including weekends. I read up some more on the company, and found literally dozens of similar cases, but some people were not so lucky. When they threatened me with legal action, it was the last straw.

I spoke to a few people and typed up a letter in the form of an affidavit where I deny any responsibility and the fact that they cannot provide me with any form of proof. And that even if it was the case, that the debt had prescribed. I also told them that I sought legal advice and if they are prepared to go to court over R2000 (or there about), I will see them in court. I kid you not, 10 minutes later, one of the board members emailed me back, saying that they view the matter as closed, and that I will not hear from them again. Wish I still had that letter to post here...

That, in short, was my experience. Be weary of those bastards, they are ruthless. I read somewhere that they had to change their name because the debt collection department cannot be advertised as lawyers, because of their ethics.

Anyway, just do a bit of digging. There are some scary stories out there about these guys.

Last thought, call Incredible Connection's account department and ask them how much you owe and pay it. If you settle the account, MDB cannot touch you. Remember, these debt collectors heap up a hell of a lot of "legal costs" on top of your account. So be quick.

I made contact with them via their e-mail on their web site and a person by the name of Sally Ryce whom sent me the 'outstanding amount' which was 1261.30 with installments of 207.61 which to me sounds about right.
Then I left it at that.

It's strange that you posted because this morning I got an SMS saying:

DEBIT ORDER: INCREDIBLE CONN acc XXX due 31/10/14 will be tracked from 24th, pls provide. Call MBD LC (011)560-4566

I sent them a e-mail asking what this actually means and they haven't replied, yet when I made contact with her originally to find out my outstanding balance, her replies were super fast.
Suffice to say, I'm still waiting a reply.

Just based on your story, I decided to settle the account now, paid it and even used the FNB PAY AND CLEAR NOW facility (extra R40!) but at least it's done. Proof of payment sent to their fax and e-mail facilities.

Send a letter as well stating that this is the final payment and the matter is now closed.

Demand a letter that you have settled etc else expect to hear from them again in 5 years when they start calling you every day and spam you with sms'es (that they charge you for so add another R5000 to the amount they will claim you still owe :P )

That is a very good idea.

I've done that in a e-mail now to [email protected]

Hi there,

Please see attached proof of payment (PDF)

I've just done the settlement payment and e-mailed it to [email protected] and fax 011 560 6599 which was on the letterhead you sent me previously.

I used the FNB's "Pay & Clear Now" facility so it should reflect today.

Please can you confirm you have received payment and that hopefully by tomorrow, you can confirm to me that the account is now paid.

I called the customer care number on 0115604705 and spoke to a lady by the name of Malie at ±12:45pm and she suggested I e-mail you directly.

Any issues, please let me know ASAP but ultimately, I want confirmation that my account is sorted and closed off by tomorrow please and all debit orders are now cancelled too.

/Nick
<cell number removed>

I plan to call this Sally Ryce tomorrow morning as well.
I'm going to be on her case till I get what I want.

Hi all,

So...

My mission this morning!

08:46 - called 0115604705 - Rang a few times then died.
08:47 - called 0115604705 - Rang a few times then died.
08:52 - called 0115604566 - Their legal collections department (apparently) and spoke to a "johanna" - gave her my account number (reference) and she picked up it was an incredible connection account.
Told me to wait 24 / 48 hours for it to show. I asked to speak to Sally but apparently she works at head office, asked for direct number and they refused to give me the direct number. She said her manager said she will tell Sally to call me back, I demanded to speak to manager and request Sally's number - she again refused, said her manager name is "mama" said she will tell Sally to call me, I then asked her to confirm my number which she did.

09:00 - called 0115604705 - Rang a few times then died - thought I'd try again and see if I had more luck with another REP.
09:05 - called 0862227373 (another one of their numbers) - Immediately not working.
09:06 - Sent E-mail: I typed a e-mail and sent a email to their [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]
09:08 - Sent E-mail: I resent the same e-mail from above to [email protected] which I got from Co.Za Domain listing.
09:41 - FNB Online Banking 087 575 0000 and spoke to Pauline. While chatting to her, she informed me that a MBD debit order has just gone through (which I expected). After a long chat, she advised me to just wait till tomorrow, call again (they can't reverse/stop it now) and then ask a consultant to stop and reverse the debit order of R207.61. She also advised me to not even bother asking for a refund because it will take forever to get that money back so I must do the "stop and reverse" tomorrow morning first thing (7am) - I've paid up my account so they can't moan (MBD)

10:03 - Sally Ryce replied to e-mail (she did not call!) saying:

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your payment.
Kindly be advised payments take 48 hrs to reflect / update on our system once payment reflect we close the file and provide paid up letter.

Obviously, tomorrow being weekend, I will hound her Monday again but tomorrow morning I'm putting a stop / reversing that debit order.

Check this site I found: http://mbdnomore.blogspot.com/

Woohoo!

Sally just sent me my letter!

Dear Sir / Madam

Per: Sally Ryce

Every bit of communication between myself and them I'm printing and keeping in a file.

Do not give up or slow down on this until you have that letter!
That type of scum will try and dredge it up again sometime in the future.
