I don't think you can send USSD codes through MDMA unless you have used MDMA to make the connection. One cannot connect two programs to the same COM port at the same time.
Yes you can. The modems have more than one COM port, one for Windows to establish the dial-up connection, and another for diagnostics (which MDMA uses).
You do not need to have an active internet connection in order to send USSD queries.

try this: (I might be wrong, but were you having hassles connecting MF668 to MDMA???)
Plug in modem, Open CellC dashboard and wait till dashboard recognises modem and sees tower (don't connect), close dashboard completely, open MDMA, wait a few seconds, Does MDMA now recognise the modem?

My problem with MDMA, both beta 8 and beta 10, was not that it didn't find the modem or that it didn't connect with the MF668 modem. MDMA connects but it doesn't toggle the "Connect" button to "Disconnect" after connection so I can't close the connection via MDMA.

I have found that I can start MDMA and then connect via the CellC dashboard or the Windows dialup system. This means I can use MDMA to monitor the tower no and the signal strength and I can also disconnect without having to jump through hoops. :)

I avoid the CellC dashboard as much as possible as it takes longer to connect than the Windows dialup option (life is too short to wait those extra 15 seconds :)) but the real reason for not using the dashboard is those *&*^%R adverts which irritate me intensely. I only use the dashboard at the end of the month when I want to make sure that the data usage tally in NetMeter is more or less correct.

We live and learn. Thank you. I knew that MDMA got it's information from the diagnostics port but I was not aware that this could be used to send USSD messages.

I normally have MDMA open to monitor the tower no and signal strength but I connect to the Internet using the WIndows dialup facility, or, when I want to check the account balance, the CellC dashboard. I avoid the CellC dashboard where possible (it's slow and I hate those damn adverts) so it will be great if MDMA can check data balances. I'm running under Linux at the moment so I can't test it right now but I will try later after I've rebooted in Windows.

Later. Rebooted in Windows and connected via Windows dialup but with MDMA running in parallel to monitor tower no and signal strength. USSD command *101# gets the available balance immediately.

Bye bye CellC dashboard and those *&^$*# adverts. :)

I don't know of an AT command for the E220, but you can get the values from the ^DSFLOWRPT unsolicited notifications, as shown here.

What happens if you use both port and commandset option?
/port:COM<x> - Bypass the automatic detection of the data device and use the specified port

/commandset:<command set> - You can specify whether to use the Huawei, Option or Novatel set of commands. You can only use this option if the port has already been specified. If /commandset is not specified, only standard commands are used.

Arghh, don't bother, it is on Vodafone software. :)

Just want to mention I managed to resolve the issue today where MDMA wouldn't detect my MF190.

I completely removed the drivers and uninstalled the CellC dashboard and reinstalled, problem fixed. I haven't been home in a while, so mind the delayed response :p

Verify you have modem drivers installed properly. Device Manager -> View by connection and expand USB Hub section.

Just tried v1.0.0.30c on my brand new Vodacom K4605 and it didn't work, tried the latest v31 Beta and it asked for my PIN and connected :D

As reported here, there is currently an issue with band setting on ZTE modems that support UMTS 900, they can be put into 2100MHz only mode but then I don't know how to get them back into automatic mode. A 900MHz only mode would be useful too.

I need your help. I'm looking for documentation on the AT+ZBANDI command, in more detail than below:
All my searches result in the same list of commands, so they were probably all copied from the same source.
Code:
Set Band Status +ZBANDI
at+zbandi=0 • Automatic (Auto) - Default
at+zbandi=1 • UMTS 850 + GSM 900/1800
at+zbandi=2 • UMTS 2100 + GSM 900/1800 (Europe)
at+zbandi=3 • UMTS 850/2100 + GSM 900/1800
at+zbandi=4 • UMTS 850/1900 + GSM 850/1900

Some people have kindly sent me links to ZTE documentation, but unfortunately these have all been for CDMA modems.

If you find anything, please post links here or drop me a PM, thanks.
