now its my turn. We have a butchery/veg store in pietersburg, 1 of 3 branches here. We decide as a group on the our prices on a weekly basis. Now I must tell you its not always the shops thats the culprits. Abatoirs complain about availibity of meat in general, and rising fuel prices, as they must source meat all over SA. So then they increase their prices, and we have to do the same. We as a group must get our gp between 15 and 22% just to survive, beleive me, its tough industry to be in. Then on the other hand, meat prices is high in gauteng. One of our branches supply meat to a lot of spurs and other restaurants in pretoria, and joburg, just because our prices is better. We beat most of the retail stores prices, and quality. They do work on a higher gp on meat than many smaller butcher shops. So in short, its not always the shops that inflate prices.
