Hi there

So my g15 keyboard is still going strong but I think it's time for a change. I'm looking for a mechanical keyboard with brown switches for +- R1500 or cheaper. So i asked the guys at Rebeltech and they suggested me this and this.

I mostly play FPS games and don't need programmable keys as I never even used it on my g15. So I just need a keyboard with basic functions. I'm willing to buy from other shops as well so keep the suggestions coming.

I once had a coolermaster mech. Best keyboard I have ever used, and im not just talking about it being mechanical. The feel and design was amazing. I would happily recommend a coolermaster mech keyboard to anyone.

I've been reading online about the Quickfire Rapid-i and people complain about some of the LED's just dying on them. so this made me a bit worried but sure if this happens i can just return it to store for a swap out. The Mech keyaobard is a bit out of my price range. it's not like I'm going to smash the keys with a hammer.

You say you once had a coolermaster mech keyboard so what keyboard do you have now? Why did you change keyboards?

How is it better than a normal keyboard?

What do you mean? it's membrane vs mechanical. So I think it's better to type and better response time. I had a go on a Corsair k95 with red switches before on a friends pc and it's awesome. Much better than my g15 but that keyboard is expensive.

Well, if I buy a keyboard then I buy one that seems to do the job. Not really sure what this mechanical and membrane thing is.

Mechanical feels better. lol. if you don't have anything to contribute then don't comment. I want mechanical and that's it. I'm just asking for a good bang for the buck keyboard.

Mechanical is much better. I use a K90 Corsair (there was no K95 when I did my pc upgrade), and would never go back. Not a single LED has failed on me yet.

I commented because I wanted to know if I should go for one as well... That's one of the reasons why the forum is here...

oh ok cool. I say wait for me to get one and I can give my feedback. I'm just looking for the right one to go for. I really dislike the no palm rest on the Coolermaster ones I linked to

So I decided I'm going to try out the Quickfire rapid-I with brown switches.

I have the rapid-i with blue switches, nice keyboard. Keep in mind that the macros it talks about don't record keystrokes, but rather are to set custom lighting patterns.

Yes i know. The only thing that bothers me is that what I can read online there's a new revision out with 90 degree cable and they also fixed the LED light's. people been complaining about LED lights that will just die. I don't use any macros on my current g15.

i got the logitec G710+ and i love it!

way better than a normal ****ty one

So I asked Rebeltech and the rapid-i they can get me is the new revision with the LED backlight issue fixed and the L shape usb cable so pretty much sorted there. Still haven't ordered it yet cause still unsure if that keyboard is good although I don't see anything much better than that. I do use the numberpad keys but I don't rely on it. I can just get like a cheapo numberpad and when i want to use it slide it over. The fact that the Rapid-i doesn't come with macro keys is a plus and makes it smaller.

My desk space is not as big as I would like and my G15 is actually a bit big for me and would like to go smaller. I Had a look at the Logitech G710+ and it looks really nice but My supplier that i can buy from said they have no stock. They can only get it next month and I actually wanted to get a mechanical keyboard for a very long time now.

One thing that bothers me about the rapid-i is the fact that it doesn't come with a wrist rest so won't that give me fatigue in my hand? I care a lot about comfort but to be honest at work I use a keyboard without a palm rest and I don't get any fatigue in my hands.

Another thing is I can get the cougars from my supplier but they only stock the red switches and I don't like the red switches that much.

I got my new K70 rgb mx brown today and loving it sofar, came from a gigabyte osmium mx red.
Doubt i'll be able to use a keyboard without a wrist rest :)

Looking for a decent cherry red mx: It looks like its going to be either coolermaster or corsairs.

Corsairs seems to have better build?
Just those RGBs and that fscking lighting show :erm:

I have a cooler master quickfire pro (blue switches) for work and a logitech g710 + (brown switches) for gaming at home. Both are really good. Once you go mech you can't go back.

The blues are really nice to type on but are clicky. The browns are less clicky but still have a tactile feel.

Gigabyte mechanical keyboards are also Good. Corsair are really nice in terms of look and feel, but they expensive.

Check carbonite, could find a good deal.
