Mechanical keyboard

Once you go mech you can't go back.
I used a Cooler Master mech keyboard for gaming for 5 months... Switched back to membrane. For some reason the keys take longer for me to press than using a membrane key. And key presses is key when playing CS:GO.

Although, I am looking at a mech keyboard again. Brown switches and no macro keys on the side.

Have a look at Cooler master novatouch keyboards. They have better travel time.

So I ordered my Rapid-i cherry mx brown today. Will get it sometime next week. I will keep a tab open in my browser so i don't forget about this and supply you guys with feedback once i had it for a day or 2. I will also update when it arrived.

So I asked Rebeltech and the rapid-i they can get me is the new revision with the LED backlight issue fixed and the L shape usb cable so pretty much sorted there. Still haven't ordered it yet cause still unsure if that keyboard is good although I don't see anything much better than that. I do use the numberpad keys but I don't rely on it. I can just get like a cheapo numberpad and when i want to use it slide it over. The fact that the Rapid-i doesn't come with macro keys is a plus and makes it smaller.

My desk space is not as big as I would like and my G15 is actually a bit big for me and would like to go smaller. I Had a look at the Logitech G710+ and it looks really nice but My supplier that i can buy from said they have no stock. They can only get it next month and I actually wanted to get a mechanical keyboard for a very long time now.

One thing that bothers me about the rapid-i is the fact that it doesn't come with a wrist rest so won't that give me fatigue in my hand? I care a lot about comfort but to be honest at work I use a keyboard without a palm rest and I don't get any fatigue in my hands.

Another thing is I can get the cougars from my supplier but they only stock the red switches and I don't like the red switches that much.
If desk space is an issue, consider a tenkeyless mech board. I use the CM Quickfire TK, where the cursor arrows and numpad are combined, and uses the numlock key to switch between numpad and arrows/insert/del/pgup etc. Probably not ideal if you use the numpad all the time, but that's what the work pc is for :)

Lol the Rapid-i is tenkeyless. I said I ordered and payed for the rapid-i. Now just awaiting delivery.

I went from a G15 to a Corsair K95 RGB with cherry reds... Have to say it's a brilliant keyboard but I wouldn't go so expensive again as it has its drawbacks...

The RGB concept is awesome, but the software is a nightmare unless you're willing to spend lots of time learning
The Keyboard struggles to start up on boot, sometimes it doesn't connect at all until you unplug it and re-plug it back into the usb port

I suppose it all depends on what your budget and need is when It comes to these

i got the logitec G710+ and i love it!

way better than a normal ****ty one

1+ logitech

spilled a hole cup of coffee on mine :( feared it will never worked again . Opened it up and dipped it in spirits for day or so dried it, for the odd sticky key here and there that I had to clean again its working 100%

This is with coffee running out of the keys after opening and two sugars :D

I would recommend reds or blacks, more suited for FPS games IMO.

Not that many options around locally when considering blacks. Reds are readily available through most local retail channels. I prefer blacks.

So i recieved my Quickfire Rapid-I. So far what I can say is that it's much better than expected. I like the slick plain look and the small size. I still need to plug it into my pc. Another thing to note is that the you can't really eel the tactile bump that much but you can still feel it and this had me worried that it will hinder me when typing. I was worried that I will feel the bump all the time but now I'm liking the brown switches. The sound is just awesome having that click sound is music to my ears. I will run this for about a week or so and give feedback.

If someone really looking for a mechanical keyboard and I forget to post in a weeks time then please remind me in this thread

I went through the struggle of picking a mechanical keyboard for a few weeks, cursing the lack of availability of the Das Keyboard.

Eventually shipped one in from Amazon, cost R1800 with 7 day shipping.

Couldn't be happier, glad I didn't compromise and get something else, this will be the last keyboard I ever buy. Unless I get another for my work desk.

Can you link me to the one you bought? I just want to see what it looks like. I like the simple look of the Rapid-I. It just looks great. The corsair ones have a "over the top" look and I don't really like that.

Got my first mechanical keybaord today and loving it. Got myself a CMStorm Quickpro XT with brown switches

I use a Razor Blackwidow Chroma (one of the best keyboards in the world), not in your price range, but an awesome piece of equipment. For me having a good keyboard is really important to my typing and gaming.

Nice man. I saw it at Rebeltech for under R1K.
