Skimming through some international forums, I have learnt the following differences:
1. Mede8er has front panel buttons, PlayOn doesn't. - Both have remotes
2. Mede8er has carry bag, PlayOn doesn't. - Not too much of an issue
3. Mede8er has arguably a better fan, though no complaints about noise on PlayOn. - Noise could be an issue if PlayOn is louder than Mede8er, will have to test
4. Mede8er GUI is in HD. - +1 for Mede8er
5. And as Lancelot pointed out, PlayOn is R500 cheaper. PlayOn is less than 2/3 the price of the Mede8er (R1099excl vs R1799excl), but this could just be the introductory offer
I guess it all comes down to features and support, i saw they just released v3 of Mede8er firmware, how many firmware updates been released for the PlayOn?
where does one get these units from locally?
Do these media players, or any other on the market allow one to install a DVD/blu-ray player internally instead of having to have another unit in your media setup?
I have an old'er popcorn A110 and that can play BluRay (.mts2) and DVD (.iso) directly from hard drive.
The Playon HD recognises an optical drive connected to one of the the two USB ports but will not accept one internally.
Will the Mede8er not be able to play an optical drive via USB? I see the Playon HD supports an internal SATA drive...only HDD, not optical?
Edit: Do both support an internal HDD?

DionWired has some very attractive deals on the Mede8er ATM... any conclusive evidence for or against it?
Just want to double check something: I assumed all media players that do 1080p had high def interfaces. Is this not the case? From this thread I gather that the mede8er has, but the PlayOn not?
