Mede8er vs. WD TV

Looking at upgrading my dad's media player for his birthday. It's up between the Mede8er and the WD TV. Spec wise I think the Mede8er is a better product but it certainly doesn't look as polished as the WD player. What is the better product?
 
I don't see why I'd pay and extra R1k for the Mede8er, but thats just me
 
Well doesn't look like WD TV can house a hdd whereas the Mede8er can.
 
Yeah but is that worth paying R1k?

I like that I only move my external around from PC to the TV, not lugging the whole thing around
 
I have the WD TV HD. Probably not as good as the Mede8er but good enough to watch whatever I want on it.
 
The WD Live is +-R1000 and the Mede8er is R1700incl, R700 for a monster that can handle everything?

The WD Live HD playing is not the greatest i've heard when i was looking at reviews, but to be honest i've only played with a Mede8er and a Privio Lite myself
 
The Mede8er is probably the better player overall, although the WDTV has not given me any issues - it will boil down to what you can afford.
 
Shouldn't you rather compare the Xtreamer to the WDTV, seeing as they are more or less the same price.
 
I'm thoroughly enjoying my Mede8er. It's a great piece of kit. Also getting excellent reviews internationally including on the highly critical avforums.com website...

I would strongly recommend it.
 
between those 2 the mede8er is definately the stronger piece of kit.
