Mede8er VS XBOX360 VS PS3

I only have one problem with the Mede8er, since i bought it, I never get to use it becuase my girlfriend and her mother watch it constantly. So now i struggle with streaming stuff via my PS3, while they have it easy with the Mede8er.

We need to get a Mede8er for every tv in the house!

Have you tried ps3 media server? Streams perfectly over LAN of course.

Well if you only going to use it for playing media files then the mede8er but if your watch blue-rays and play playstation games then the ps3
I use the ps3 works fine for me I use ps3 media server it transcodes ok with most formats BUT for media playback the mede8r is the best

Hi All. Thanks so much for all the response and info, its much appreciated. I think the PS3 ill rule out so now its either between a Mede8er or XBOX 360 with desktop PC for streaming but i also wanted to find out about a device like the Mede8er but with a PVR function. Is there a device like this?

Hi. Thanks for all the response, much appreciated. I still dont know what to do tho, now that the new XBOX is released ive been trying to gather some info and even asked the stores but couldnt find answers i was looking for. My existing xbox cant seem to play ALL media files. Certain AVI and MKV files i found cannot play. Another problem was that when connecting an external drive to the XBOX it needed to be formatted in FAT32. Does anyone know if this all changed with the new slim models?

Hi Fee ... forget the Xbox 360 (slim or any other) for media.

If you're looking for purely media, you can't compare a games console (not even a PS3, believe it or not!) to a dedicated media streamer! Browsing the forums and chatting to a few people, you'll be under the impression the PS3 can do everything. It can do streaming - but nearly as well as a dedicated machine.

The codecs is only one thing - but the browisng, GUI and general feel of navigating the system is another.

.. but he has an Xbox 360?

.. or are you talking general - nothing to do with this situation?

no the new xbox will have the same limitation with regard to fat32 (PS3 suffer the same limitation), with regard to codecs it depends on MS if they decide to update to allow more support for other codecs.
