Guys, i want to replace my MXQ. Im looking for an upgrade with a bit more Ram and onboard storage etc. The MXQ has served me well, but need something with a little bit more now.

anybody have a list of what i should go for and what they would cost?

No idea what your requirements are.
I just bought myself an ASUS VIVOPC VM 42

its a celeron and I bought more RAM and an SSD.

this will be my main media center running Kodi and a few other progrmams.
the reason I went for this was because I had a contact that got me that same miniPC for R2999 so with the extra RAM it was still cheaper than on takelot.

My entire thing came to R4400 and for what I need its more than enough.

yeh looks great, but out of my budget. just looking for somthing i can hook up to my tv, but thats maybe an upgrade on the MXQ

Do you use it as an Android PC i.e. you install various apps from the app store or are you looking for a media player?

pretty much a combination of both. I run Kodi, Netflix, Youtube and have my drive hooked up currently to my MXQ. That Remix looks interesting, but wondering if i can use a remote?

Remix the OS is solid. I have it on a flashdrive and play around with it from time to time.

the device I linked is pretty new so I cannot say if it is good. but the specks seem solid. and at that price its worth the risk. I mean its cheaper than a Rasberi PI.
I think the Kore app will work as a remote for Kodi on that, but more than that I cant say.

how about you give it a whirl and let us know?

yeh i think i might take a dip tomorrow and pick one up. might sell my MXQ for a couple hundred rand

ok the Remix Mini looks really sweet. kind of sad I did not see it on takealot when I ordered my miniPC.

seems like this Remix mini is not bad. for R599, seems like a decent price, so might look into it tomorrow

WTF Takealot.. i added the Remix Mini in at R599 in my cart, and now all of a sudden the price is at R999. No No No, im not taking this crap again from Takealot

should have bought it last night.

see the price is not R999. seems to me they realized its too cheap at R599

problem is, i checked it out of my cart last night, and ran into an issue where their page kept crashing. So 1st thing this morning i tried again, only to notice the price has changed. Beyond frustrating

That is not cool. page was most likely crashing because they were doing an update.

thing is R599 was WAY to cheap. the thing sold for $50 on the kickstarter.
and the box is not $69 on their shop.

even for R999 the box plus the HDMI cable you get according to the product info is still a good price. I don't think you can buy it internationally and beat that price TBH not with the exchange rate.

i agree Baxteen, and i agree even at R999 its a good price. However, im just annoyed at the fact that i added it at R599 and its changed suddenly. More frustration as this this is not the 1st time ive ordered something a certain price from them, only for it to suddenly change. I must admit, i had much better time of things with Kalahari.

I totally get that. personally I have never had that happen, and I have only had one issue with them.

I ordered 5 items. paid, then on delivery day I get a message saying the one item is not in stock.

it was a box of cat food.
18 days later after a few back and forth emails I called them used my silver toungue to get throught to the procurement manager, explained the problem and told her that there is a pick and pay close to the warehouse and there is no valid reason for them not to simply go to the shop buy the item and ship my order, made her look up all the tickets and I kept calm the entire time. that usually makes them panic if you have every right to be furious but you stay calm.

they made a plan and shipped a different flavor that they did have in stock 10 mins later. I had my order that same day. considering I am in Joburg and they are in CPT where the other items needed to be shipped from this was very impressive.
