Hi All,

Can anyone offer me some advice on the best media server commercially available in SA? I'm looking for a device (not a PC) to stream music and videos wirelessly in my home.

You do get a WD media server, they had it on takealot a while back, not sure what it is called but it does what you want.

So you're actually looking for a PLAYER, not a server, then?

Yeah, I guess 'Player'...
Thing is, I don't want to go through the trouble of building a media server when a commercially available product does the job. Anyone bought the WesternDigital product, how would you rate it?

Where do you want to stream from? Do you want a internet streaming device? Do you have local media already (on NAS or hard drive)?

If you already have a pc where all your media is stored, get Chromecast and run plex on you pc. Cheap and very effective soultion

Roku 3 if you want something with a remote and don't have anything invested in the Apple ecosystem.

Apple TV if you have a lot of content in the Apple ecosystem.

Chromecast if you want something cheap and you don't need a remote (control from your smartphone).

Takelot used to sell all 3 of these but it seems they only stock the Apple TV now. You can get the other 2 off Amazon though.

Currently have plex running on Dual Core + 4gb, 120ssd with 4x 4TB inside.

I have an Intel Xeon Starlake server with 16gb ram I can grab before its given away, would it be worth it to use it over the Dual Core as media server to my ATV4?

Without saying which Xeon and which Dual Core you have now we can't really say.
