Media Streaming

@Freeksta, probably not a bad idea, I'm also about to build a Vista Premium Media centre, it's a good option these days. On Prostreet - it's available for PC as well if your machines up to spec ;) Although I wouldn't bother with it, there's much better race games out there - DiRT for one is supurb.

I never bashed a thing. On the Media issue, my I kindly suggest you reread the very sentence you bolded first. PS3 is a fantastic BR player and it scores all the points you want for it. But BR is not synonymous with media, it's a piece of high capacity plastic,and an extremely expensive one at that. There are many more ways of getting HD media on a device, theoretically, even standard DVD. As much as you are convinced BR is your future, I'm convinced BR and HD-DVD are both lost causes like SACD and DVD-Audio that preceded them. I'm for (legal) downloads all the way. Joost, Hulu, Amazon Unboxed, Apple TV, XBLVM, BT Vision - the world seems to agree.

On playTV, it's an interesting twist but doesn't 'answer' IPTV. PlayTV is just a Digital Terrestrial signal decoder, much like the ones the SA government wants to roll out in the future, but we currently have no digital signal in South Africa and probably won't until 2010. It's a separate paid for device, and doesn't offer any form of video-on-demand (VoD). By Comparison 360 IPTV is just a software upgrade, it's "built in" if you will and includes PVR functionality and VoD. On playTV being 1080p, I need to double check, but as far as I know, all digital broadcast are currently only in 720p anyway.

Dude chill out... stop trying to over convince the poor guy... if you want a flame war... I made a thread... but this aint a flame war... it's simply freesta asking which one is best... and plain and simple... NEITHER...

Freesta... I know It's a big buy, for both consoles... but go to a friends house... beat off little kids from the consoles at stores... just mess around with them... each console is great and each console has some sort comings... don't read things with out knowing there might be a very bias opinion to it...

anyway... I aint gonna say the xbox is better then the ps3, and I won't say the ps3 is better then the xbox... so bashing makes no sense...

later guys, going to play my ps3 :D

I am not talking about XBox's in general, it's just that I think you mentioned it somewhere. My gut feeling is that the PS3 will fill more of your needs but that is what it is, a gut feeling.

Good luck with whatever you buy. Check out www.lazygamer.co.za for an article on the PS3 being bundled with a Bravia in Oz and possibly here next year. Now if you plan on waiting, that is what I would be waiting for.

I don't want to call you a hypocrite but I may have to. At least I admit my favour and substantiate it I don't pretend to be impartial. I correct a factual error with your statement and you retort with nothing but a personal attack. Nice mate. Leopards & spots I think you know the story.

B) what do you want me to do? sand by and just say all your points are valid and hell add a few myself? ha ha, not a chance china, I will stand by the console i love... not to the ridiculous extremes that fanboi's got to, but ya, I will defend my console... but i will without a doubt admit the flaws... and i will say i'll kill Robbert Mugabi for some of those games you got on the xbox(If i said any one else, I'm pretty sure i'll get shouted at by some /-*insert the name person i might kill for xbox games*-\ hugging *******

anyway... Yes, I see that I am a strongish supporter of teh ps3, doob you might be a little stronger with your support of your xbox, still... I guess apples and oranges(why you would name a fruit after it's colour confuses me anyways) were never meant to get along...

I have absolutely no problem with you or anyone else wanting to vocalize why you like the PS3, by all means, it helps folks like Freeksta get a bit of insight before he buys. Both consoles have their strengths, but neither device is the holy grail of gaming they approach life differently. What's a "clear win" in your mind may not be to someone else.

EDIT: Sony must be stoked with those EU stats this week, as much as Microsoft must be stoked about the US stats. At least the totals have been cleaned up.

I think as both scotty and Doobiwan have mention....

I will be doing my own physical research.. playing with both consoles and at the end of it make my decision... ;)
