It seems like there is always something "not good" about one mediabox over the other, I've been looking at purchasing one for about a month now, and i can't figure out which to get.

1) Xiomi Mediabox S - Apparently there was firmware update that made the older one better? Does it play IPTV?
2) Ematic Mediabox - Honestly can't find a specific opinion on these besides it having a low 2GB of ram
3) Mediabox MBX4K 'Ranger' - Local company but cant find enough reviews, most of them are conflicting
4) Apple TV - apparently good and expensive, but i dont own any other apples products, so i feel its abit ass about face.
5) Skyworth - Not google certified?

Gun to your head, which is the best all rounder (that has atleast Google certified and Netflix and IPTV capabilities)

Ematic. I had one and never had any issues with "only 2Gb ram"

I think if you research the threads here you will find the following boxes come out tops (in no particular order):
1. Xiaomi MiBox
2. Telkom LIT
3. Nvidea Shield
4. Ematic 4k Ultra

I have the Telkom LIT and extremely happy with it.
Easiest set up ever and no issues at all.
Currently looking for another one for my 2nd TV (MiBox or LIT) but waiting for Black Friday

There is no issue with 2GB RAM - otherwise Netflix wouldn't have OK'd the device .

In fact, Android TV 9.0 is even more efficient and made to run on 1GB hardware. The latest batch of Ematic already have Android TV 9.0 and the existing will be upgraded in next month or two.

The Mi S 'negative' for some people though is actually a single USB port and mo Ethernet port.

so in your experiance then, Ematic or Xiomi Mi Box?

If you want the ultimate in media boxes then you would be hard pressed to beat the new Zidoo UHD2000

Probably not Netflix certified, but will have PlayStore. I have two X9S players at home. Work great. This one is the new big boy of the lineup.

You do know the LIT and Ematic are the same box, right?

If you want an opinion on the Ematic read the entire Ematic and LIT box threads.

Genuine question - but why?

This looks like something that would have done well 5 to 10 years back in the days of downloads and local storage - but time has moved on.

No Netflix UltraHD? I'm not sure I'd even use this if it was given to me free - let alone R15,000 on it

I have the apple tv 4 non 4k and tempted to get a replacement BUT to find something that'll be as smooth a interface as apple tv 4 is going to hard unless it's another apple tv 4 which is pricey.

Watching reviews on youtube the Apple TV 4k has smoother interface and faster boot times than even the Shield.
The apple is boring but it just works, get's updates on regular basis and you never have to fiddle.

Indeed its just that good, only apple product I use is the ATV 4k.

They just need to sort out the YouTube 1080 story.

There's plenty of UHD YouTube content out and Apple is still using 1080 :/

Imagine spending R100k on your new fancy theater and get limited to a 10 year old resolution.

Probably the Xiaomi Mi S before the Lit/Ematic for the sole reason of continuous support and roll outs / updates internationally in the long run. Nology whom supports the Lit/Ematic is local.

Otherwise a Google Chromecast - you can never go wrong with it.

The new Shield (2019) is equally smooth. If you are going to use the same services that you use on the Apple TV, then no fiddling is required. But you do have the option of fiddling to your heart's content should you so desire.
Problem is price after shipping and duty.

You cannot go wrong with either the Xiaomi Mi Box or S version. The S version will soon get Android TV 9 as well. But if you want a snappier Android experience and have the cash to spend, go for the nVidia Shield TV. I recently bought the 2019 version from Amazon and it is a pleasure to use.

He can - nothing wrong with Mi S

But if there's already a Google & Netflix approved product on the shelves, running the latest Android TV 9.0 with additional ports (Ethernet & USB) - and local support. Why would he rather get the Mi S over it?
