Hi Ladies and gentlemen
I was just wondering, which media player do you own, and how would you rate it?
The few people here who knows me wil know that I have a XtreamerPro, I am mostly happy with it, except for the damn xJukebox that has been giving me problems (and its quite irritating since it’s one of the main reasons for me owning a media player)
The first thing I look at is the storage space, Chipset, and does it have a Jukebox, so if you are going to reply, please use this as a template

Make : Xtreamer Pro
Capacity : 2 sata 3.5 slots (4tb max), with 2 usb ports
Chipset : RTD 1283 DD
Jukebox : Yes (but full of bugs)
Firmware updates : Yes, monthly
Price : +- R1300

I am considering buying the Popcorn Hour C-200, the price is just a little steep, but it’s the only player besides the Xtreamer Pro that has space for 2 internal drives, and apparently the Jukebox works much better than the other players, and the Chipset is better and faster, but I am no Media player expert, what would you recommend?

Make : TViX 6500
Capacity : 1 sata slot (2TB) with two USBs
Chipset : Sigma Design SMP8635 chipset
Firmware : no more official, as unit is discontinued
Price : R4,500.00

I only use it for movies only and I love it! My only gripe is a lack of a search function

No idea what the Jukebox is exactly, but assume it's got to do with music ;) I use a Logictec Squeezebox Classic for music - and soon to be Logitech Touch.

EDIT : I see they've just launched a A-210

Make: Mede8er Med300x
Capacity: 1 SATA (2TB)
Chipset: Realtek
Firmware: Dependant on issues
Price: R1300 or so

I use it for movies and series and it works a dream for that, haven't found a format it struggles with yet.

The Jukebox enables ou to browse your movies, with nice cover art, ratings, and everything you want to know about a movie, i could not find any screenshots for the xjukebox, but there is a screenshot of the Mede8ter's http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/9/5/5/0/1/webimg/388377896_o.jpg?nc=893

R4500, bliksem, and i'm complaing about the R3500 for the Popcorn Hour :p

Oh - I've got the Jukebox ;)

Out the box it has the stupid file list, but I used www.tvix.com to change what it looks like and browse covers etc.

A quick look http://www.popcornhour.co.za/Buy shows much cheaper prices than what you've seen ;)

What's the difference with the chipsets btw?

I wish that was the case, but the R3500 that I was talking about was for the C-200 (drooling), I came across the site a few weeks back…
The chipset is responsible for how fast the actual player is, how smoothly the video plays (with HD), I also believe its responsible for the Audio, as far as I know, most players like AC Ryan, Xtreamer, Mede8ter all use the Realtek 1283dd/ 1073DD chipset, and the popcorn C-200 uses a “Sigma Designs SMP8643” chipset, which is faster and better
I may be corrected as I am no expert, but I think that’s what’s it’s all about

Make : HTPC
Capacity : 3 x HDD = 2,3TB, with 6 usb ports, 1x2GB ram
Chipset : Intel E5300, ATI 5570 , Hauppauge 150
Software : XBMC and Win7 MCE
Price : Original price R1500, after GFX card, TV card, HDD, Xbox wireless controller, and New Case R5000

Running a Popcorn Hour A110 for a few years now, and its great, plays EVERYTHING smoothly, but sometimes issues with subtitiles (sure a firmware fix is out for it)

BUT: HDD's tend to struggle, no internal fan, BUT, you can mod it.

i also tend to think at the end of the day a Media player PC is the best, definitely easier to manage, it’s just a shame it’s so expensive with all the needed accessories, DTS-es 7.2 Soundcard, good graphics card with processor capable of playing HD, a Infra-red receiver fir your remote, a remote…….bleg

AppleTV for me
No harddrive (Absolutly quiet). Wireless N streaming
Not sure on the chipset. Think it is an ARM of some sort
Jukebox? Not sure what you mean, but it does Movies, TV, Music, Podcasts, etc same as any iPod

The initial expense is quite a bit, but after awhile you just keep it updated, my buddies have theirs for about 3 years and it only costs the price of bigger HDD's every so often. Though I prefer having a media player especially the newer ones that get firmware updates as it's smaller, quieter and you don't generally have to worry about OS and anything else fiddly.

WOW, Nice find!!!, some nice chipset coming out this year hey!!

I'm not sure on the accuracy though ;)

I'll have to check - but I'm sure mine does some of those that the site said it can't

Tvix 6500, but bought a PS3 yesterday and it rocks! Great interface and streams effortlessly from my PC.

Surely the TViX is better?!

The look, the feel, the UI, more codecs?

the 5570 outputs 7.2 over hdmi and got the ir receiver + remote with the hauppage 150 for R860

Mmmm ... but you have to map to your media lib .... no DLNA ... ?

I hardwire it anyway and use the internal/external - but unless things have changed with firmware recently, it couldn't display the album, synoposis, rating, cast or anything like that. It also didn't do MKV and - if you're using the external drive - it's limited to 4GB files, ruling out the majority of HD movies.

Soundwise - doe sthe PS3 do FLAC or lossless formats?

Yeah, PS3 definitely lack some features ....

Actually just wanted to check whether you maybe know about a firmware update on the TViX that added DLNA ...
