Hi guys.
I am in the process of planning a LAN party at my University (Cape Peninsula University of Technology) as I am doing my Cisco Certification there, and the Dean encouraged me to try it for the students. There are a lot of uneducated people here with regards to Telecommunications, telkom and the like.
Anyway, what I would like to do is, make a big banner advertising Myadsl.co.za and hellkom.co.za to create awareness to students here, and eventually take it to other public events. The first LAN is planned for June, and I was also planning on having a computer logged onto myadsl.co.za so people can surf the site and read up on current events in SA.

I am no Graphic designer, but I have a friend whose dad has a Very expensive printer for printing banners etc. I can get a big banner done for around R1500-R2000. I am willing invest up to R750, would any other members be willing to contribute? We could take the banner to any public events etc. and create awareness :D

If any Photoshop gurus could perhaps make an eyecatching design to be used on the banner that would be very COOL! and you can put your sig whatever on it. I would really like this to happen as I think it can do a lot for myadsl.co.za and hellkom.co.za

what are you guys thoughts, comments, ideas etc?

RPM, just thinking bumper stickers - if they're ready in time for Fieldy's LAN party it would be good if Fieldy could hand them out :).

Nice idea Fieldy. If RPM endorses this then I'll be willing to make a contribution towards the banner (can't afford much this month I'm afraid).

Hi Fieldy

Please supply us with more detail about the event, ie amount of people that will attend, where it will be held etc. Another good idea might be to visit Coke and ask them for a banner. I have received free banners (large and very well done) from them before. If you need official letters etc. please let me know…

Regards,

RPM

If you will put http://www.voicefoum.co.za on it, I will pay for the banner.

Please note, I do not want to compete with this site, I just think a seperate forum for VOIP would be good, as it does not distract from MYADSL main goal, connectivety in South Africa, if thats my correct understanding. RPM, Ic, if this is not how you view it please let me know.

Thanks

Perhaps you meant voipforum.co.za?

Personally I don't mind, I just haven't had a usable connection for VoIP, as soon as I get one & time I will try lurking/particpating - my plan for this year is try & drastically reduce outgoing analog telephone calls & keep as close to the minimum monthly spend ITO line rentals & services etc - I doubt outgoing analog call charges will ever reach zero, but I'm gonna try very hard.

IC,

Thanks for pointing that out ! :) oops

I trust that you will get a connection soon, I have even tested voip over a 56k dial up and had a good result.

Hi Wicked, I would be more than happy to put your forum on if it does the same job as myadsl.co.za and hellkom.co.za. The idea for the Banner is to create as much awareness as possible. I wouldn't feel comfortable you paying for the whole thing so a contribution would be fine. you can give as much as you are willing.

RPM. The LAN will be attracting between 200-300 people and lots more spectators as it will be advertised on campus. Still working things out with the University but it is on the campus, trying to find sponsors too so we can have a CS and NFS:U2 Tournament.
Will keep you updated though.

Any Graphic Designers feel like helping out?

banners are a more relaxed means of marketting however, you gently show the user a little image that they may or may not see and may or may not click. I say go for some agressive marketting, find out who you want there and get up in thier faces. but thats probably not what you're looking for :p

I own a web development/print company, if you can provide me with specific info regarding the banner in email or PM i could get one of my guys on it

Dear Iburst,

you many not advertise with us, not at all !!!!!!

Unless you bribe us all with complimentary uber-fast-reliable internet connections. ;)

I can offer also some contribution, it can't be much because I am a pensioner with heavy medical expenses.
