I just had someone from Dell explain Dual Channel memory to me like this.

Processor bus - 1333
Dual channel 667 = 1334 FSB

He said they're matched now because 2x667 = 1334 to the processor

Any truth to this? I doubt it. As far as I understand dual channel simply means you can get twice the ammount of info through the memory at the same time.

OK, I questioned why they were installing 800MHZ memory in a machine with aPU that is 1066 MHZ compatible.

This was his reply. He also said that they use the Q35 chipset from Intel which supports 1333MHZ bus.

The memory controller only supports up to 800MHz but it’s dual channel, that’s the important point.
So a 667MHz RAM x 2 = 1334MHz so this does match up with the processor bus.

800MHz x 2 = 1600MHz and there is no 1600MHz FSB processor quote yet.

For best performance it’s best to populate RAM in pairs so you do populate both channels.

i dont know to be honest but it makes difference 667 800 1066 basically slightly performance difference
 
This is how I understand it: The data bus between the RAM and the CPU is doubled when you run your RAM in dual channel. In my PC the data bus was doubled from 64-bit to 128-bit. It does not affect the speed that your RAM operates at, but rather the amount of data that can be read/written to and from your RAM.

don't confuse dual-channel with Double Data Rate (DDR)

Dual channel is 2 separate bus channels talking to 2 sets of memory

DDR is when the memory clock is double the bus clock speed
