Men are violent, sneaky: UCT students

What? That maybe these woman have a valid complaint and we shouldn't dismiss it offhand?

/cue assumptions.

Considering your complete lack of knowledge of how the UCT campus works it's a very reasonable one.

Everyone knows that Jammie shuttles are late. It happens with buses. Are they ever unreasonably late, not often.

Is it reasonable to expect them to be dead on time every time?

Also, these students lost all credibility when they complained about res meals being 12 hours apart on weekends which is patently false.

Sorry... Are the police "technical staff" now?

I must say that they do not seem very organised in their with regards to their agenda, nor their M.O. In the real world one would expect student leaders to convene with the people they represent, and then with university representatives in a cyclical manner to address issues one by one as far as possible on a regular basis. But what's happening here sounds like almost every second person has a different grievance and now that shouting is in fashion they are all just shouting at the same time.

I agree that measures to promote the safety of the female students would be good though. Anything to break this culture of rape in SA is more than welcome.

Lol, if you say so chief.

The students claim otherwise but we'll just take your word for it and assume they're taking the piss? Furthermore, asking them to be dead on time isn't unreasonable if their wellbeing is threatened.

You have a source for this other than the clickbait article in the op?

Wait, just wait.

You want me to provide a source for one of their claims but the other you believe without question?

/facepalm

When did I ever say I believe them without question? All I said was that their claims shouldn't be dismissed offhand. There's that assumption thing again.

So how should i find another source for their claim then. Fly to Cape Town and try find the unnamed women in the article?

or you could just wait to let the university ascertain the veracity of their claims.

Oh gees this is amazing.

So someone gets to make a claim but you expect someone else to provide proof of said claim?

That's not how this works.

stop twisting my words.

Nowhere in that investigation does that excuse them from backing up their claims.

I am well within my rights to lampoon their claim(which I really wasn't,it's the reasonableness of the claim that I rejected) especially when it has little to no effect on the reasons they have for making said claim.

I.e. The sneaky men, who by their admission are already on the campus. So it would make zero difference if a bus arrived on time or not as the sneaky men would have been around during the time the bus wasn't there anyway.

Once again an assumption based on your word.

Did you or did you not ask me to provide proof of their claims?

No, I asked for another source. You're the one who assumed that I believed the one claim and not the other.

So an article from a somewhat reputable news agency is not a good enough source?

What if no other news agency interviewed these exact women?

That is a completely unreasonable thing to do.

Here's a thought. Why don't you provide another source of them claiming the Jammies are always late and sneaky men hanging around.

Why should I? I didn't make any claims other than saying their claims shouldn't be dismissed offhand. Also, the clickbaitiness of this article was established by C4Cat on page one.

The thread title, taken from the article, is totally misleading. The actual quote in the article was:
"There are men who are sneaky and violent toward women on campus," one woman said

The headline makes it sound like students said men generally, or all men, are sneaky and violent whereas actually it was just one student who said there are men who are... which is perfectly true. And the buses should be on time at those dangerous hours when there are not a lot of people around...

Right, so let's not dismiss their claims out of hand because we must find another source to verify that they made these claims in the first place.

Your logic is as astounding as the protestors.

For workers, it was about insourcing.

Mlandu said many were unhappy with wage agreements their unions had reached, which resulted in salaries of less than R10 000 a month. They wanted R12 500.

**** these workers, they have a job and should be thankful. There are millions in SA that can do their jobs.

That's not what I said nor implied. Splendid job assuming....again.

A wizard lol. I asked for another source to read up more. You assumed I believe one and not the other.

Why is another source needed?

Do you do this for every single news article you come across?
