I find it very interesting that the 2 most desirable cars and most luxurious cars being MERC and BMW for the middle to high class citizen seems to loose their value very fast for whatever reason. This applies to any make of vehicle of course. What I would like to find out by the owners of these two vehicles that come highly rated when making a selection as to which car to buy, why did they select that specific vehicle and what are the pros and cons having purchased these vehicles?

Would be interesting as to hear the different comments that would enable myself to make a well informed decision when one day purchasing one of these used vehicles?

The biggest question is : Auto or Manual and of course the pros and cons to this.

Mercs seem to hold their value quite well. Had a 2005 A180 and was offered R 120 000 as a trade in for a 2013 A180. Book value was R 100 000 and car cost R 165 000 in 2005

The odd exception aside, Merc for old/conservative and BMW for young/dynamic. The end.

Oh, and steptronic FTW, nothing else ever, ever, ever again.

If we are talking sedan, Merc C Avantgarde... and auto. Gives you more style and comfort and holds value better than a 3 for sure.

Merc is trying to get into the youth segment very hard, the car still looks too mature for people in their 20's i guess.
But I saw the new C Class yesterday...damn...

BMW got their youth segment cars right. Aggressive looking and all that. That is more appealing to people in their 20's.

But I fell in love with this "must have" after I get a house (sad thing is that I hate the fact that their parent company is VW):

Merc didn't have an equivalent of the X1 at the time...(still don't).

Auto...why change gears if you don't have to.

BMW - I prefer the interiors and they are RWD.

LOL! I must be the exception then, I love the Mercs...my next car will be either the 250 Sport A class or the new diesel C class saloon. That thing looks wicked, and the technology

Oh and I'm in my 20s.

To me the Beemers look plastic and cheap...it's either Mercedes or Audi.

No don't get me wrong, I love Merc more than BMW. I would just like some of that aggressive AMG looks on the new C200 then I'm sold. But Audi over everything else.

Merc
GLA 200 R 398 800
GLA 200 CDI R 422 700
GLA 220 CDI 4MATIC R 489 000

BMW too many models to mention
starts
sDrive18i R364 000
to
xDrive25d R536 500

Merc has better resale value than bmw, you will also see way more older mercs on the road than bmw, there must be a reason for this.

That said from a purely driving experience point of few a bmw feels better on the road but that's where it ends for me. Never will own a bmw as long as i live.
