So it seems that Meta unfortunately isn't going to be releasing the Quest 3 in SA officially, but there's at least one local retailer that has it for pre-order :

Pricing doesn't look too outrageous but only time will tell whether it remains as-is. Failing that, I suppose one could always order through Amazon and it might even work out cheaper that way.

I wonder if I should cancel my preorder and rather order locally. On Amazon it is $500 + $325.20 shipping/duties which works out to about R15600...
I preordered directly from Meta, but I am shipping it to a US forwarding address on Shipito. The duties amount is still unknown.

If you order the 512gb it would be cheaper than the 128gb version on amazon $650 + $133.59 = $783.59 shipping which I don't really understand. I would rather wait if the shipping would go lower for the 128gb

Bloody hell, the one thing I want to order online and our exchange rate is in ruins and I don't seen it getting better. Decided to go the 500Gig, this is with the fastest shipping option.
If you not in a hurry, I guess you could gamble for a better exhange rate and get it a few months down the line. But my outlook for South Africa is pretty damn grim.

So the 128GB model on Amazon is: $499 + $319.78 = $818.78
The 512GB model on Amazon works out to $805.10....
Does the "$319.78 Shipping & Import Fees Deposit to South Africa" imply that it's an estimate or the real amount that will be paid?

That's amount to be paid. I think you pay the maximum potential import cost then they refund you the difference of the actual import cost down the line.
But it's the first time I order from Amazon where the Rand increased by like 32-55c and they have something like a currency guarantee. No idea how that's going to work.

The moment it ships, the amount will be deducted.

I bit the bullet and ordered a 512gb version on Amazon with priority shipping. ETA is 23 October. The Quest 2 has been life changing for me and I figure the Quest 3 seems like a worthwhile purchase.

If you don't mind me asking what will you be using your quest 3 for? I also have the quest 2 and it has been my daily fitness device. I mainly play beat saber on it and sometimes watching a movie on bigscreen VR

Same as you, fitness (beatsaber, thrill of the fight, pistol whip, fitxr and more) as well as pc vr streaming and then I'm very interested in its AR capabilities for media consumption and productivity. With the Quest 2's pass through mode, it isn't very practical to try and use it in that manner.Quest 2 is fine for watching movies etc, but you're completely cut off from the real world. With Quest 3 you can do it in augmented reality and overlay screens onto the real world and maybe even multi task while doing it.

That's cool man.

And yes the AR capabilities will definitely make a huge difference on the quest 3. I'm still on the lookout for good reviews and waiting for lower prices.

So this arrived today, but its not for me, its a gift for someone. I will decide to get one for myself after I get what I expect to be amazing feedback!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Box is like half the size of the Oculus 2

Mine arrived today, almost thought it got stolen out of the box, because it felt way too light and small.
I gather you ordered from Amazon? Was it delivered on schedule or behind\ahead of the ETA?

I took the fastest delivery option. It got out of customs around the 15th

In my case it went from DHL to Ram. Amazon has always been around 7 working days for me.

Only played for around an hour with it.
When I was setting it up at work, the passthrough quality was around 720p.

At home with much poorer lighting it's around 480p/360p

Speakers are much louder, had to turn it down.

The new guardian just works, it's pretty trippy too, you walk and it creates itself, draws meshes of obstacles.

Played a bit of Elven table tennis in mixed reality. Realized I can actually see if an actual table tennis table would fit in my room. Can see some body tracking going on with the arms, way too accurate when I bend my arms.

I hated that feature on Quest2, but it just works on Quest3

Also that game has nice settings and could do 1.4 anti aliasing @ 120hz in MR
