Meta unveils plans for smartphone killer

Meta Platforms debuted its first pair of augmented reality glasses — devices that show a combined view of the digital and physical worlds, a key step in CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s goal of one day offering a hands-free alternative to the smartphone.

The new glasses, introduced Wednesday and called Orion, look like thick, black reading glasses, but have lenses that can display text messages, video calls, and even YouTube videos onto the user’s field of vision.

“Any kind of prior attempt at AR has been a headset, goggles, helmets,” he said. “We want to get to glasses.”

While I doubt this will be a smart-phone killer anytime soon, this seems to be going in the right direction.

Naaaaaa, waiting for the Neuralink Vision implant...

Goggles on the face, vape in the hand - we are well on our way to devolving back into apes..

As a VR veteran by now. I still don’t see why these guys want you in vr in your day to day life.

This is AR.

VR with AR. blah blah

Google glass flopped. Apple vision pro is still trying to get 100 000 of them out so I consider it a flop.

The two go hand in hand. Any machine worth the rendering capabilities or display worth the resolution is not a sole AR unit. Unless you give it to apple and have it stripped out of all the good functions for no reason.
