Sure we all know at least the basic two of flash cards and 'parrot'/repetition methods. However I would like to know if you have found some other method that works a lot better than the above mentioned.

Thanks.

(yes getting back in studying from last done in school days it seems I have to learn to study again lol :o)

Cant remember, but think my studying method was called mind mapping

like this

Was only one which really worked for me. Most things I did try made me forget everything the next day :p

It depends on how you are as an individual. I find writing down summarised notes help, others find mindmaps that interconnect useful..

Maybe I should try few mindmaps :)

Depends what you are studying?

I like summarizing the text book, usually around 1 page summary per 10 pages text.

Then read over the summary a few times before sleeping (dont know why, but i find i remember more if i study then sleep straight after).
Then its past exams.

If its IT stuff, CBT nuggets are the business.

Ooo, whats Prophet studying? :D

Tony Buzan is the one that promoted Mind mapping big time. He wrote a few books about it.

My memory is wierd. I often forget a lot but can remember a tonne when offered the simplest of clues. So to overcome that I try group things and then remember an anagram or something to help the initial bit.

Summarising for me. Not only did I remember stuff because it was written down, but I had my summary as a learning aid, and I could demonstrate (even if only to myself) that I had actually studied. 100 handwritten summary pages of Economics is hard to fake.

Agreed on the summarising part.

Also if you not doing UNISA but at a university with contact time, I find it useful to bring the powerpoint slides that the lecturer has done him/herself and then add notes to them, and then re-write the lecture slides + added notes onto a single piece of paper, as it can be a bit messy at times.

+1

If you have a short attention span it helps you focus on what you write.
I also found that If I wrote it down 3-4 times It sticks like poo to a wool blankie.

Found some nice free mind mapping software.

Other question OT to the OP. If I want to start with philosophy of the mind and then for mathematics space and change- what would be a good start for those three ?

I used Mega Memory, it was labelled a scam later on, but it did actually help me through my school years, basically it teaches you to visualise what you need to study and create your own story it your head, once you have done this it’s very difficult not to remember what you have visualised, in college i was the only person i knew who never failed a test, and i primarily used the technique they teach you in Mega Memory
Give it a shot!!

Mega Memory was only a scam so far as it tried to cash in on something that's been known for ages (so it tried to sell you something that you could find for free quite easily).

The method of loci (which is what you're describing) is a very good way of remembering long lists of items.

I cram the night before the test... so I would not say that it is for everyone, but for me it works well enough at the moment. Might have a couple of subjects that are not so easily "cramable" someday and then I'll try a different way.
