Metro 2033 Performance issues

lol yeah i agree with you ... the things, AND MONEY, we do/spend to play games .... sigh.... is still an awesome hobby though ;-)

i cant see how it can be chipset related...BIOS and everything else is up to date...maybe the game needs a patch??? i just installed it to see how it would run... not like im playing it extensively.

has METRO 2033 got MP???? is it any good??? would you recommend the game ???

METRO 2033 is one of the best, most awesomnessss games I have played in a long time. It's not the longest game ever but for the money it was SO worth it. There is so much attention to detail and I spent hours walking around in the stations just exploring and looking at stuff lol. And the looks...wow, best looking game ever.

Oh yes, and it is a GREAT hobby! Haha, love it and always will. :D Nothing like walking into a hardware store :D

Looking at the benchmarks this is an INCREDIBLY challenging game for hardware. I had no idea. tri sli 480's at 1920x1200 max everything can get 61fps. You'll need to upgrade that cpu chop-chop... and if you can afford it, and if it's worth it to you, get another 5850. Otherwise.... just turn down the settings man :D

I finished the game already with settings on High DX11. It was acceptable but I'm one of those enthusiasts :D:p. My ultimate goal is to have it look the best it can while running smoothly. My 5850 was running it well but I won't mind another one.

But that's what I'm trying to figure out. Should I get another 5850 first, OR get a CPU upgrade first and THEN another 5850 you see :D

i7 is very good and what not, but if you want to go bang for buck mate, go the AMD route...thats what i did...in a couple of months im going to get the PII x6 and another 5870 and both of those parts will still be cheaper than the next intel cpu alone and the performance is going to last!!!

Exactly what I was thinking. Thanks for the advice bud. Maybe I should just get another 5850 in the meantime while I'm waiting for those AMD CPU's to come out. This will be my first Crossfire setup so I might need some help with that haha :D

get the mobo/cpu/ram combo first....

i say PII x6 / 965BE , good gigabyte or ASUS AM3 mobo with 2x16 PCI-e lanes, 1600MHz DDR3 4GB ram

get the gfx later ;-) you do not need it now

can't believe this mate... i put all my settings in-game to high , running @ 1680x1050 , constant FPS of 90-100 and no matter what i never get a frame drop...i do get alot of tearing on the screen though...if i turn around fast it seems like the screen is cut in half...anyone getting the same problems???

there is no possible way when you are playing online and for instance a tank shoots a shell and there is an explosion that on high your frame rate will not drop.

Run fraps tonight because i know i can be cruising around on high then if something heavy goes down the frames drop badly. Like sitting gunning ontop of a light tank when it starts shooting my FPS drop by like 40%. You cannot in bfbc2 have consistent FPS. This is very obvious when you get online, there is no possible way that even the best card on the market will not drop the FPS.

Maybe you could make us a small video and prove that your FPS is constant even when the shyte hits the fan. Like tank shells going off, armour exploding that sort of thing. I would love to see it because maybe the issue is my crossfire setup, maybe that 128 bit bus on my 5770's is not coping with all the data, so i am not saying you are wrong but bfbc2 on high is a vga killer and i am almost 100% certain any vga card on the market today will suffer FPS drop.

LoneWolf dude, do you know what the difference is between the 32bit and 64bit versions of Win7? Have you seen any improvements in performance in general?

Yea i would also like to know, does 32 bit windows 7 run the game better? Would kinda render my 6gb of ram useless though :D.

ill see what i can do regarding the vid mate... i'll focus on the fps more frequently when stuff gets rough...maybe im wrong, but i cant se a performance drop of 40%, thats for sure...thats why i said fps constant between 80-100... ;-)

why would the fps drop when online if i may ask a n00b Q ??

i haven't worked/played on 32-bit win 7, so i cant really tell...but 64-bit feels more "mature"...dont know how to explain...it just utilizes hardware better i think...no limits...

Geez that sounds rough dude. My fps never drops that much when gunning from a tank etc. I had some fps problems before but after the 10.4 update it's been great.

The 5850-70-90's have a 256bit bus hey just remember, and higher memory bandwidth. But you're right, it might be the bus. But the 40% fps drop sounds like a problem, eish.

Well when you play single player everything is basically scripted, so there is not much variation. Now when you get online with say 31 other players, your vga card has to cope with people in armour, people all over the show, choppers flying etc. Nothing is in the script everything is random so online play will always use far more graphical power than single player. At least i think so :D.

Guys just run bfbc2 for tonight with fraps open and watch your FPS please. Would like to know. Play on full servers and watch the FPS.

Yeah dude, kinda sucks having more than 3GB memory and it not being utilized. Guess I'll just have to install it and see for myself lol :D
