Metrofibre Experience and Pricing

Why is metrofibre so much more than others at the moment..??

Cheapest i found for a 10 10 line was R605 via vodacom fibre .. Only metrofibre infrastructure
Check carefully, some providers are like R50pm more, but you get free installation/activation. Others are cheaper but you pay upfront for installation/activation.

Paying upfront for the installation cost is not a bad option if you intend on staying with a particular fibre provider for a long period of time. It might take a year or two to reach the financial breakeven point though.

Check the cancellation fees before signing up since most isps charge clawback fees if you cancel within 12 months. Things that appear to be free might just be charged for at the end of the contract. Buyer beware.

MetroFibre Fibre to the home Speed and Package Adjustments

Over the past few months we have witnessed a number of product and price adjustments in the market and we are pleased to bring you news of our own package adjustments with effect from 1 June 2021.

The great news is that your fibre package will be automatically adjusted to the next higher speed at no additional cost! We have also introduced a new package – 300Mbps to ensure our 200Mbps customers also benefit from this upgrade.

We are discontinuing the 10Mbps package. If you are currently on 10Mbps, you will now get 25Mbps speed at the same price. Still uncapped and unshaped!

Kindly note that you do not need to do anything further, your package will be upgraded automatically between 1 – 15 June 2021.

With this additional speed we hope you enjoy doing more with our fast, reliable fibre.

That is extremely unfortunate news that the price is static till Feb 2022

Hi @Dee96 , many people see that in a positive light. A month-to-month contract is well...month to month, so our Fibre Network Operators can at any given time provide us with notice of pending price adjustments. By cementing our pricing till Feb 2022 you will experience price stability on our network. This pricing is, in essence the same as our 2020 pricing. We take the risk that if the FNO raises prices then we can't touch the prices until Feb 2022, as per our commitment to our customers.

I understand but if you look at the other side of the coin, there is also the possibility of decreases.
Given whats happening in the wider environment (Openserve), it is probable

I called it... Probable for the win

Now let's hope Rocketnet pushes the benefit to the customer fully

@AfriNatic can you advise if this will be pushed to your customer using the MFN?

We will definitely pass this saving and speed increases to our clients and new clients.

We are still reviewing these changes and once we have revised our offering we will notify our clients and update the website with the new pricing.

You guys will still be ridiculously expensive.
For the price of your packages, I can get double that on WebAfrica.

Why?

The current price of your 50, can get me 100 on WebAfrica.

I want to get back on Afrihost now that we have fibre, since you guys have excellent support, but your cost is just unbelievable.

Unfortunately I don't know what agreement other ISPs have with MetroFibre and therefore I can't comment on that.

Hopefully you guys look at making your products more competitive. It's kinda ridiculous that you're THAT much more.

You guys think the isps will actually make any changes regarding metrofibre's recent announcement of free speed upgrades, or will they will just keep prices all the same and move everyone's speeds up 1 tier?

There is no mention of price reductions on that email from Metrofibre. So it would appear that you will just move up a tier - which kind of means a price reduction, you getting higher tier speed at the same price you currently paying.

You could drop a tier if you dont need the extra speed and then you definitely getting a price reduction and staying at the same speed.

Yeah, I'm referring to the isps though, like cool ideas, home connect, webafrica etc.
Will they be making changes, or just move everyone up 1 tier?
I guess we will see in June.

So it seems metro fibre are the people who having been laying fibre in my area for the past few months.

Just logged on to Afrihost to check coverage on my address and it shows I am able to preorder and metro is the provider. So doing a little Googlefoo, I see metro has a partnership with Bitco.

I am currently under contract with Bitco for home wireless 30mbit, but I spoke to one of the higher up support people a few months ago and they said if it's possible to move me to fibre it wouldn't be a problem or be in any sort of breach of the contract ending August 2022. They will just move my service to fibre. I still need to confirm if they can do that, given the provider has them listed as approved.

Checking bitcos website my address shows I can't get wireless(which I already have) but I can order 200/200 fibre for 1399. So this would change to 300/300 for the same price in two months?

Bitco as an isp is pretty great, but it seems metro has many issues or is it just area specific? They are also quite pricey, but I've always been in a beggers can't be choosers situation when it comes to internet lol so 1399 is not so bad.

Just got a reply from Bitco regarding switching to Fibre and it appears this person was completely misinformed when they told me it would be no big deal to change to fibre while remaining with Bitco.

I just received a cancellation cost sheet totaling R22000, just to fully cancel my current contract. This doesn't included what cost it would be to install fibre here. Basically their procedure is, fully cancel your current contract and sign a new contract to get fibre xD. A far cry from "oh if you have fibre available in your area we'd be happy to change your service over for the remainder of your contract with your monthly adjusted accordingly"

R22000 to cancel?

Wow, why so high?

Well here is the breakdown I received,

So I can understand this sort of thing if i was looking to leave bitco, but I want to stay but change my service to the far superior Fibre, the infrastructure is here so whats the problem? I want to pay them R1399 for 200/200 and I can get behind the deinstall fee for the wireless, it is high but it's whatever.

Anyway, African Network Operators came to my place on Thursday http://anofibre.co.za/, they are a new isp which seemingly formed to service my area. Basically they are offering half price signups to the first 200 customers.

The way the sales guy explained it, first 200 customer pay no install fee of any kind, receive a free router. I took the month to month 1000/1000 package, no install fee, no cancellation fee, no minimum time to stay with them, no 30 day notice. I'm stuck with bitco and it would not make any sense to take a full price package from someone else on top of bitco since pretty much all companies like say cool ideas require you to stay with them for 12 months. So if ANO's service is bad, I can cancel at anytime. Zoom fibre is apparently the FNO for my street. I will get full details with regard to cancellation and any sort of fees when they call to schedule the install this week, he said it takes around 3-5days to get the install done from application submission. Also need to confirm in writing that this will be my rate moving forward till/if I terminate my service.

To me it's R949 to get 1000/1000, vs my current being 1099 for 30/15 wireless. The terms sold me on it, as the first 200 deal is really great. Also I feel and I could be wrong but a first 200 signup customer is going to get the best of their service as we are essentially advertising for the isp. If our service is kak we could potentially sink their business because of word of mouth.
