My apartment building just went into Work In Progress on the Metrofibre coverage map, pretty hyped up for it! Been stuck on DSL 10Mbps / 1Mbps (barely) for way too long now.

Anyone got any idea on how long it takes from this point on? Just curious! I'm expecting it to be a good month or two still.

To be honest. Not that great. Between 120 and 140Mbps single thread.

I think the Calix devices just aren't that good.

This should be resolved in the next couple of months though for everyone.
Define everyone.

People with an MFN line?
People with a Calix ONT?
People on Afrihost?

Which one?
Besides that, can you elaborate on what's planned or is it a secret right now?

So for our Complex, it was revealed in March last Year that Fibre will be installed. At around the end of May we were online.

For our building they completed the install in 2 weeks but went live after 6 months. Some have had it go live very quickly and others have had to wait even longer

Took about 7-8 months if I recall from when they started trenching to when my line was up and running, but this was for an area with free-standing houses. I'm not sure whether it would take longer or quicker for apartments, etc.

Yeah, fibre up again in PTA-North ! Area outage almost 48 hours. I know for some people here it started working yesterday afternoon :) Not sure if it's up for everybody, but at least for the people I know.

So trenching around the building is done, I'm not sure if trenching into the building is complete, however the infrastructure inside the building was completed last year.
I am certain that all that is left for us is our building being hooked up, since every apartment has a Termination Point already installed.

Let's hope this will be rather fast.. we've been waiting since last year July when they completed the building's infrastructure..

Hi,

I'm with accelerit and there are the most expensive now, they use to be cheapest in the market. Speeds didn't double they stayed the same and the pricing stayed the same too.
20mbps = R453
50mbps = R793
100mbps = R993
200mbps = R1143
300mbps = R1393

MWEB has updated prices for MetroFibre on their website for 1 July 2022:
  • 20/20Mbps R489pm
  • 50/50Mbps R679pm
  • 100/100Mbps R799pm
  • 200/200Mbps R979pm

  • 1Gbps/250Mbps R1,699pm
NOTE: The speed bump & pricing is only effective from 1 July 2022.
New customers get a 2 month discount.

Still waiting for word on whether speed will be bumped or not. Somehow I did have 500/500 for like 3 days but then got cut to 250/250 for some reason. ISP never did confirm whether they were bumping existing clients or not but pricing for new customers reflects 500/500 at the old 200/200 price.
