Well maybe not different deals but you never know what happens at a wholesale level.

MetroFibre does it a bit different I agree. They won't be paying line rental or NNI fees like other ISP's and even if they it's basically the same as going to the ATM, Withdrawing money and then just walk into the bank and depositing the money into the same account because they are the same company. The even save on routers because they deploy ONT's that are used for Layer 2 and Layer 3 so no need to supply 3rd party routers that will cause issues.

only for the lower service speeds, for the 1G service I got a Nokia Beacon 2 Router connected to a 803.

Why not spend R100 more and upgrade?
There is a few meg missing on the download but it was just upgraded today so maybe they still ironing out issues, other than that no issues:

I am contemplating it but I will do my due diligence first. It's a matter of principal. From paying R697 a month, I am forced to go up to R797 for no extra value. So a 14.5% increase at the end of the day, for which I can get 250/250 from an alternate SP. And then a further R100 to get the equivalent from AH. So all in all a near 30% increase.

At the end of the day 95% of my issues with my fibre so far have been mostly infrastructure related. So I am just curious as to how many issues the guys have with MFN purely related to them as an ISP. If it's minimal then I don't see a reason not to switch.

Yes, but it's not AH fault this is happening but rather MFN. So you will be rewarding MFN by moving over to them. I guess that is their objective. Make themselves so cheap so other ISPs go out of business, then they become a monopoly and increase their prices again?

Then again, if you have infrastructure issues, then maybe it's not a bad idea to move as then they have no one to blame?

Problem is, what is going to happen if you have an issue?
You want somebody competent to fix your issue or a team that is known to slowly respond and has no idea what they doing

I would hate to deal with anybody other than afrinatic.

I have been on openserve and rocketnet and for 4 years i have not needed to contact support.
That's great, I had to contact them, due to moving to different FNO's and because Metro forgot to splice one of the fibres where I stay, so had to escalate and get them to send out the original team who laid the fibre as the way Metro laid the fibre in my area apparently was a complete **** show xD

Or maybe if enough people leave, ISPs will try to get MFN to provide them the same deal conditions Why does it always have to be the consumer just absorbing the brunt of it for no good reason

Well as I've said almost all my known issues since I've been on fibre, has been MFN related. Been down about 10 times in the last 2 years, half I've checked with Afrinatic first - he's seen it's on MFN side and has escalated and logged a call with them. Other half directly with MFN via facebook. All have been resolved and dealt with in around the same time, and all has been MFN infrastructure or network related, and thus have had to wait for MFN regardless. Probably AH has a better escalation point within MFN though.

I guess a major issue is always going to be related to the FNO as opposed to ISP. However this is what I am trying to figure out. Reading the posts across the forum etc. If their ISP is trash, outside of support levels, and specifically related to network quality, throughput, latency and traffic management, then it is a non-starter entirely.

So we're paying R200 extra solely for Afrinatic - that sucks tbh. Cos AH own support is not that much better than what people seem to be saying about MFN direct.

Afrinatic, if you're reading this, can you get a family member of the same calibre to go to work for MFN?

I'm sure AH are well aware of the glaring one-sidedness. I have never seen such a difference between FNO ISP and 3rd party ISP before, not sure how this is allowed?

I had a 100/100 line, now I'm paying the same for a 250/250 line.

I pay an extra R30 a month for 1Gbps going through Afrihost than Metro, well worth it

Aah, so it's not so bad at all for you guys! Us 50/50 guys have got to stump up the extra R100 for same service or R200 if we want 250/250.

It's not a great amount of money in real terms, but as I said it's a bit of the principal of the matter. If Telkom hit us with a 15% increase all those years ago, guys would've been up in arms on the forums. Also getting it from DSTV, Netflix, Discovery, MTN etc etc lol - so it's not been a good few months.

Blame metrofibre for that not Afrihost.

ISP also Afrihost?

Yep, infact I just connected directly to the ONT and was required to activate again for some reason. Ran a speed test and got 7mbps download. Reset the ONT once more and now I'm getting the advertised download and upload speeds.

How has the speed been tonight?
