Cape Town - A 60-year-old train driver from Kraaifontein has shot and killed one of four robbers who attacked him.

The incident took place at the Kraaifontein train station at about 3am on Friday.

This was the second attack on the driver, only identified as JD Joubert, in one month.

Joubert resigned following the first attack on August 2, after 42 years in service of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa).

His last day of work is on September 30.

According to the United National Transport Union (Untu), a “traumatised” Joubert was arrested on a charge of murder. He was released on bail hours later.

This is madness where the criminals rule......well done sa again...

It is shyt like this that can bankrupt a person just in legal fees , the anxiety of having of having a murder charge hanging over your head must be pretty intimidating .

Sick and hopefully they drop the charged soon. This country's government is doing little to protect us which is in the constitution.
Criminals are a protected species just like zuma.

Cases like this will, generally, never see the inside of a courtroom.

It will reach the NPA and they will decline to prosecute.

Are here no lawyers looking for a pro-bono case?
Help the man out!

I always say, bring back the death penalty, but with public hangings (fekkers don't need to go out the easy way) let the other scum of the earth witness somebody spasm to death *****t!ng their pants in the process and then you watch the crime rate drop #justsaying

It won't go anywhere, being attacked by 4 people would be a reasonable grounds to kill someone.

I hope he gets refunded his bail money.

jassis, this blerrie country and its goverment are utter morons of the highest order. If this case is not dismissed, then ill be left speechless. Yet we have a president who does whatever the hell he wants and gets away with it.

Not true.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said: “The circumstances surrounding the matter are being investigated and a death inquest case docket has been registered.”

Journalism BS again, calling it murder.

Not true.

It is true...if you filter on crimes committed by the peeps that got executed. Zero crime rate then :p

As much as I agree that removing violent criminals from society would be good place to start; I would not trust our government with the death penalty.
