Just another thing that I have remembered, I have seen certain shipping companies ship to SA and do it using unknown services before. Aramex, DHL, TNT, Fedex, etc, are the big guys in couriering and are world wide. But some small companies in China will ship using an unknown service and it will get here quick, but it is then taken over by some local company and they do what they want. CourierIT is the perfect example as they have an agreement to take it over and probably get paid to deliver the item. It might not be a lot, but that is there agreement and does not affect the client.
But in this case, you can see that they charged insane rates to make huge money on something small. I had a 5kg package come in like that before but was lucky as there was no customs charges and they charged R100 for delivery. They were even nice enough to release to me even though I told them I will EFT and didn't at the time the guy arrived. I still paid as I found that to be fair and acceptable. The above from CourierIT is not. Will speak to Aramex to try find out what they can do from their side if somebody is stuck like this as they might be able to put pressure on CourierIT to let them handle everything.
Clearing by Aramex for any package (Even not theirs) can be done and they charge a set fee of R75.00. If you go to them at the SARS office in JHB, they are more then willing to submit clearance and assist with everything. If anybody does go there, be careful as there are people who are hanging around who will say they can help and will rip you off. For the 80KG goods, I though R1700 was acceptable. The dodgy people came back quoting me R1500 and I thought that it was decent. Then they asked for cash and said no to EFT and said hold on. Called Aramex and spoke to the one lady. She told me to go to 10th floor and she done the same thing for R300 total for everything and arrange clearance (Amount is estimated as I can't remember). Actually think the amount was less. lol
