Mi band 2

@ rakabos3 I initially ordered mine through ebay, it ended up not arriving (ebay did refund me). So after much searching I found a locally distributor (www.miband.co.za). I was actually surprised they had stock. I placed the order on Monday morning and I received it in the afternoon. Honestly, I was not expecting that, I believe in promoting companies that give me good service.

I now have the watch for about two weeks. I must say I certainly am impressed. I previously owned a Samsung Gear 2 (R4999). Absolute waste of Money. It only paired with specific high end SAMSUNG phones. Eventually I rooted my SAMSUNG phone to get it compatible with the SAMSUNG Gear 2. Yes Samsung phone not compatible with Samsung watch (genius). After all of that work. I only got 3 days battery life :(

That’s when I started looking for other alternatives. I found out that Xiaomi (The Mi Band 2 makers) is the fourth largest cell phone manufacture in the world. If they can make cell phones, it doesn’t mean they can make watches (look at Hisense, good TVs, rubbish phones). The reviews on the Mi Band 2 were good, so I decided to try it. At first I looked abroad, but I had an eBay disaster as mentioned (ebay did refund me thought). I stumbled across the Mi Band 2, as mentioned previously found it locally (www.miband.co.za) and bought it. It is pricey then ebay but at least I did not have to worry about import duties, missing packages and I did not have to wait (all those hidden terms and conditions)

It claims 20 days battery life. I got rougly 2 weeks off it. Which is good enough for me. I love mine to bits :):) as

@ wabbit16 has already done a review

@ matub2016,(my opinion only) the build quality is good and it looks good. Better looking than the fit bit. I have had no connection issues thus far. I have tried the sleep monitoring and its okay. I donot think it can do heart rate sleep pattern.
it worked out for me. This is my positive review of the Mi Band 2. It will be nice to get other South African views of the product.

Think the packaging will differ at most. Or maybe the pricier one has an extra TPU band? Can't view the link, posting from phone

I've brought 2 and have been using mine since 26th August... only found this thread today.

My opinion is that its great, works well and its at such a low price.
I have screen guards on both and haven't had any problems with it so far.

The only negatives is that:
1. it doesn't track any sleep during the day, only bedtime - so no naps.
2. heart rate monitor is inconsistent sometimes
3. steps are calculated when driving - like changing gears and moving the steering wheel. Otherwise the pedometer is really good at tracking your steps.
4. Small issue: it doesn't really track the time you "wake up", it's more what time you "get up" and walk around - so if you wake up and you just lying there on your phone or something, it still gets recorded as "light sleep"
5. Alarm: Sometimes I sleep right through the alarm as the vibrations aren't strong enough and you can't customize how many times it vibrates either.
6. Mi Fitness App could be better - the information could be better displayed.

Positives: Everything else

Favourite feature: raise wrist to view time :)

Got the Mi band 1s form Takealot to test for a couple of month and will then decide on a more expensive activity tracker.

I haven't used either of those companies as mine came from Deal Extreme, but I'm still very happy with mine.

Every two weeks or so the Bluetooth 'link' will die then I have to power cycle the Bluetooth on my phone to get it to work again. Otherwise no complaints :)

They added a 'run' function to Mi Fit the other day where you specify when you are going on a run. It supposedly tracks your heart rate, pace, cadence, etc and logs it and can even warn you if your HR goes above a certain level or if your pace is too slow.

But I don't run (if you see me running then you should run as well as that would mean something is chasing me) so it has no use to me

Park@82: I think the Geekbuying Black Friday offer for the International version at $24-99 may be slightly better than the Gearbest Chinese version for $24-89. I have bought from both companies before and never had any problems but I have never shipped to SA.

Both Gearbest and Geekbuying have some really good deals right up until the end of January. Currently Geekbuying has the International version of the Xiaomi Mi Box for $79-99 and Gearbest has the Xiaomi Original Chinese Version Mi WiFi Router 3 for $25-99 using the XiaoMiR3CP Discount Coupon (apply before checking out).

I am looking for a Mi band 2 for my wife.

which one of these would have the best/fastest shipping? how long does it normally take to get here?
Wouldn't customs have a problem with it since it has Bluetooth (ICASA)?

@wabbit16 are you still happy with it?

Anyone recently imported something with wireless without ICASA interfering?

Gearbest will be offering the Mi Band 2 for $22-89 to e-mail subscribers on 24th of November.

how long would it take to get here from Gearbest?

My experience with gearbest is to just be patient. The stuff I ordered took well over 4 months to arrive.

Wrt miband 2, awesome little device. Considering the price point (cheap!) it does everything and more that it has to. Not necessarily the most accurate but let's be honest, if you were serious about fitness and health you would go for the garmin, suunto, polar, etc at 10-20 times the price.

@znubair: I'm not sure how long deliveries would take around Christmas. The parcel should be a lot smaller than a TV box or tablet etc. so might take less time. You could also try this coupon code to get a small discount or sign up to receive their e-mail promotions to get the reduced pricing on Black Friday. You need to enter that code on the Add to Cart page in the Promotion Code box (Press Apply) before checking out.

Been waiting 4 months now for one i bought on Ebay. Went and bought one on bidorbuy and very happy with it.

The delays are not usually from Gearbest - they usually send out the parcels a day or two after the purchase. They usually e-mail you a photograph of the parcel before it is mailed together with a tracking number. If you deliver to an address in Japan for example, the parcels rarely take more than a week. You can even register on the Japan Mail website to get an e-mail to notify you when it has arrived. The tracking information is also very reliable and customs clearance usually only takes an hour.
