Mi Induction Cooker

Thanks !

Yea 40 degrees would be great as well.

Right now, we boil the kettle to kill off bacteria and with a night feed, sometimes we need to reheat ... so we sit with the switch and prematurely switch off. If it stopped at 40, that'd be magic. RIght now between them, and me / partner / nanny being at home we boil the kettle a lot of the time. This seems a good solution

Yeah boiling the kettle once isn’t a bad idea but don’t need to do it over and over again.

Why not microwave?

Boil it once and use that water in the microwave later.

****

I’d have taken it one step further and boil the water then pre-measure in the bottles and pop them in the fridge.

Then just mix formula and microwave.

Have you done a cost comparison?

Nein.

I deeply dislike gas so it’s never going to feature in my house.

I see the induction top much as I do the air fryer where the benefit of speed far outweighs what appears to be high wattage devices.

I can air fry most meals in the time it takes to heat my oven. Of course many things I wouldn’t cook in my oven at all for this inefficiency and on the flip side the oven is still king for large volumes.

But for science I quickly hooked up one of my power meter reading smart plugs to it.

When it’s running at 60 (out of 100) which is about the highest I’ll use it with consistency it peaks at 800W or so and that’s variable anyway.

Right now I’m making soup in the simmer mode which it will idle along in at lower output all day and purposely goes up and down at intervals.

So even at a worst case of 1 hour of use a day at full bore (which isn’t how it works) it’s going to cost me all of R66 a month.

I’ll leave the smart plug on for the rest of the day and report back.

Awesome, thanks. I have gas stove, and airfryer, but was thinking of adding a single plate induction cook top (not necessarily a mi-induction one) to the arsenal.

It ran many many hours today and only used 1.3 kw.

I can confidently say it will use at absolutely worst case 1/4 of that daily which is utterly insignificant in the bigger scheme of things.

I will definitely be replacing my entire stove top with induction at my earliest convenience.

So my induction kettle came... But I can't see me getting the cooker today.

It seems it's on the eBucks store - but that's probably a week or more delivery. Builders list it as online only, but no shops have it... So I doubt they can get hold of it. Takealot say supplier out of stock.

But at least I have a kettle!

What we used to do for both my children over the last few years :- (my daughter finally gave the bottle up a few weeks ago)

Heat the kettle, pour water in a flask, and then use the flask to make milk, etc.

In fact , we have been so bad (or call it experience after the first one) that my children used to drink their formula milk at room temperature. So kettle boiled , and then during the day that water is used for feeds (directly from kettle). Never had bottle warmers or anything. Both my children are a-ok with no side effects. :)

In fact with the second one, we would only use that blue bucket to sterilize bottles once a week , otherwise, normally they were just washed normally. The difference in approach between the first and second child was miles apart.

Yeah we also used the flask...but the side effect is they got used to near instant gratification when wanting a bottle. Getting our little one of the bottle was the real challenge, especially that food is now not instant. Except...bananas gets eaten like there is no tomorrow since that is still instant.

I prefer gas. I have a single plate induction, and it’s great for getting a pan really hot really fast, but it lacks the finesse of gas hobs.

And it always works.

Finesse? That’s exactly what I find lacking from gas.

It's easy to control the flow of the gas and therefore amount of heat being produced and there's instant visual feedback. Finesse.

It’s impossible for me to operate like this and not knowing with consistency what to expect every time.

On the flip side I have 100 levels of granularity with my induction setup so I know exactly what to use when.

Different strokes... I enjoy the subtle variations when I cook. I see a recipe as being a guide rather than a set of instructions.

I also appreciate cooking when Eskom doesn't want me to.

That would explain it, I’m all about the science cooking.

I have a braai and worst case camping gas for that but soon solar will solve the problem entirely.

Never again will I buy from those scammers, stealing your money when they tell you 'no stock' and not refunding your money.

So I couldn't get the Xiaomi now as no no has stock.

So I bought Snappy Chef in the interim to try - it boils water marginally faster than my Kenwood kettle, but as was said earlier it is more 'complex' that just pressing an 'on' button like the kettle has .

Does this have a fan at all ?

Due to lack of stock, I bought the Snappy Chef unit ... it's just noisy!
