Microsoft and piracy in SA

We should be paying less for Windows than the US, and not just for the ultra-crippled version. And where are the cheap multipacks that are available elsewhere?

There is no theft involved in a person violating copyright by using a copy without paying. I doubt many of the people using copies they didn't pay for broke into a shop and stole a disc or raided Microsoft and too their only copy of the source code. Those things are actual theft.
 
It's nonsense about how it's affecting resellers. Resellers make peanuts out of reselling MS products, and any profit we do make goes down the drain with endless installation and support issues.

You joke... but its becoming topical now.

With 3d printers its possible to create copies of physical objects, meaning that you could create an exact replica and there for infringe on the intellectual property of the designer.

In theory it would be possible for you to take a part a car and scan every part of that car, and then make copies.

If the digital designs of the car were put on the internet you would then be able to "download" that car.

but think of it like this... Chinese companies selling exact copies of cars for a fraction of the price ?

So you get a fong kong Porsche, all the design, engineering and quality for the price of a Cherry or Chana car.

No, like a scan.

3d scanners can make an image of any object, then a 3d printer will "make" the object for you. They are usually laser cutters etc.

This is only true if one assume that many people would have bought the software if pirated versions were not available. I'm not sure that's a sound assumption.
 
I think they are looking to rectify this problem with Windows 8. There will be 2 versions: 1 for home use and 1 for business use. Which makes sense. Now all they need to do is release it for a good price and maybe sell some. What they ask for MS Office Pro is ludicrous, you could buy an i3 laptop for less. Hell, even just obtaining Outlook standalone (or in the MS Office Home and Business package) is insanely priced. 1k for an email app? You must be smoking something. There are free alternatives (even one from MS!) available.
 
i think people just got p*ssed off because they paid for vista and were then expected to pay for something that works.

look at games. they come out costing a fortune and then slowly dip in price. after two or three years you can pick it up for 30% of the original price. why isn't windows the same? because they're money-grubbing b*stards.

maybe china should start making and selling weendows. there's a gap in the market for something that looks like windows but isn't windows.
