Microsoft builds new browser

Great to see more innovation in this sector. MS seems to respond each time a new competitor comes into the browser market. IE 8 for FF and now this for Chrome.

But they're putting a lot of hay on their fork... creating a lot of code which they must maintain, and pay their developers for...

...not to mention security updates and all that jazz.

They're digging a nice, deep hole for themselves.

I definitely think that this is a good idea from MS, especially as more and more app's are moving over to web-based "cloud computing" solutions.

+1 from me for the idea, but they will definitely have to work on the speed issue.

Another things that I'm also happy about is that MS has started seriously thinking about parallel computing is today's world, with the release of .NET 4.0 which is around the corner. It's no use creating all these cores and only processing on one.

Why did they call it "Gazelle" if they know it's going to be slower than everything else?

They should have called it "Buffalo" or "Hippo".

like wizard said competition is good it makes company's develop better products. I for one prefer IE 6 to ie 7.

I can see it now...the name up in lights..."MS Sloth 1.0".

EDIT: Maybe this is a ploy to get around the EU ruling on not bundling IE with Windows?

EU commission: Damnit Steve we told you to stop bundling your browser with Windows!
Steve "the chair" Ballmer: Uh...no technically you told us not to bundle Internet Explorer with Windows, you never said ANYTHING about 'MS Sloth 1.0' *hurls chair*
EU commision: OW!!!

They forgot about one thing... we don't all have 2GB of RAM to dedicate to a browser

Im terribly sorry but the words Microsoft and Secure do not belong in the same sentence unless it is to point out yet another way in which their bloatware is NOT secure.

Instead of constantly focusing on bringing out more dodgy carp, why dont they try and fix the rubbish they have already foisted off on people?

:D

This "Gazelle" of theirs will also be a dismal failure as they're utilizing IE components... and if there's a security hole in that component, it'll render the supposedly new secure browser also useless.

am trying to type this with tears in my eyes as I'm laughing my head off

more secure & built based on current IE components does not compute!!

Vaporware like WinFS? Or Fail like Zune, Origami and Vista.

Which shall it be?

will still be no where as good as Chrome and FireFox
FF, while being my preferred choice, is still a memory hog. And I never really took a liking to Chrome. All browsers have their trade-offs, so I'm not quite sure how you can arrive at a conclusion before a product is even released.
